Nine Jumeirah Golf Estates members are a step closer to securing a place alongside DP World Tour stars after qualifying for the DP World Tour Championship Pro-Am Challenge Final, with Ilya Stroyev earning top seed honours following victory in the club’s October Monthly Medalford.
Stroyev posted an outstanding eight-under-par net 64 on the Fire Course to claim overall honours in a field of 102 players, edging out a tightly packed leaderboard and securing his place in the qualifier final later this month.
The event carried added significance beyond the usual monthly competition. Players were also competing for places in the DP World Tour Championship Pro-Am Challenge Final on October 31, where the top three finishers will earn coveted spots in the Rolex Pro-Am ahead of November’s DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
For club golfers, it represents a rare opportunity to share tournament week with some of the biggest names in world golf.
Stroyev sets the pace
Stroyev’s net 64 proved enough to finish one stroke clear of the next-best score of the day and cap a strong performance on the Fire Course.
Only Sheila McIlroy came close to matching him, returning a superb seven-under-par net 65 to win the Ladies Division and secure her own place in the upcoming Pro-Am Challenge Final.
The standard throughout the field was high, with several divisions requiring countbacks to separate players.
Richard Aybar claimed Division A after carding a four-under 68, narrowly edging Thomas Griffiths, while Ryan Belshaw topped Division B with a five-under 67. Tom Neale secured Gross honours after posting a one-under-par 71, and Richard Bernans emerged victorious in the Stableford competition after a countback against Tony Piccolo.
DP World Tour Championship opportunity awaits
While the Monthly Medalford trophies were up for grabs, the biggest prize arguably lies ahead.
The leading qualifiers from each category will return to the Fire Course later this month for the Pro-Am Challenge Final, where three places in the Rolex Pro-Am remain on the line.
Those advancing include:
Gentlemen
Ilya Stroyev
Ryan Belshaw
Richard Aybar
Ladies
Sheila McIlroy
Mitra Ghandi
Hannah Gribbin
Juniors
Ryder Eatson
Abdulla Darwish
Daithi Fitzgerald
With the DP World Tour Championship fast approaching, the prospect of teeing it up alongside some of the game’s best players adds an extra layer of excitement to what is already one of the club’s most anticipated member competitions.
Strong participation as season gathers momentum
The October Monthly Medalford attracted 102 members, continuing a busy start to the 2026/27 club season.
“It’s fantastic to see the season now in full swing, with a strong field of members coming together for another great day of golf on the Fire Course,” said Cameron McWhinnie, Golf Services Manager at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Away from the main competition, Mitra Ghandi claimed the Beat the Pro challenge on the second hole against Ethan Trouth of the Tommy Fleetwood Academy, while nearest-the-pin prizes went to Martin Stewart and 2026 Men’s Captain Carl Downham.
For Stroyev, though, the biggest reward is still to come.
His victory may have earned the silverware, but later this month he’ll have the chance to turn a strong club performance into something even more memorable: a place in tournament week at the DP World Tour Championship.
