Chippers are better than Vokey Wedges. I've got proof.

Chippers are better than Vokey Wedges. I’ve got proof.

If you’re a mid- or high handicap golfer, there’s a good chance you’re making golf harder than it needs to be.

I’ve been a longtime believer in chippers, and in this video I’m making the case for why a chipper (yes, including the Ping Chipr) can be a better choice than a traditional Vokey wedge for almost all recreational golfers. Yes, they are legal, and NO, they are not just for greenside.

The goal isn’t to hit impressive-looking shots. It’s to get the ball on the ground, get it rolling toward the hole, and eliminate some of the things that can go wrong with a wedge; like the dreaded thin over the green or chunk that goes nowhere.

I’ll explain why chippers can be easier to control, why they can be more forgiving on mishits, and where they make the most sense around the course.

If you’re a mid- or high-handicap golfer who struggles with chunks, skulls, thin chips, or simply doesn’t feel confident with a wedge in your hands, this one is for you.

And yes… I carry TWO chippers.

Could one actually save you strokes?

Watch and find out.

  1. So… i play a 20 yr old set of blade irons, and a pw 52 56 and 60 wedge set. When i started playing a few months back alot of people were pretty discouraging. I had made the greivous error of buying clubs that i wanted because they were beautiful. They turned out to be the same clubs tiger woods used in his early days. I would hear "the only person who can hit those clubs is retired now" " the sweet spot is the size of a dime" "get game improvement irons"…. i took the driver out of the bag, started to hit the scary irons until they became my comfy go to clubs. Now i play with the same 1 and 2 handicap guys who neysaid but they dont say anything but nice ball and good shot. Im 44, never gonna be a pro, but i am accepted by the best golfers ive had the pleasure to play with. Not because of my club choice, but because i have a passion for the game. Because im fun to play with cause i know im bad and aint mad about it. Nobody cares what club you use if youre not slowing people down and your fun to play with. In fact its a rule that you arent allowed to ask what club someone is using. If it works for you and you are having fun then do it. If ya make a nice shot, you will hear nice shot. You have to have an ego, its that kinda game. So have the right one, be humble and gracious, smile at the bad shots cause you arent at work and fully take in the good shots cause of all the work it takes to make one. One other thing. You gotta stop with the never in a million years would you make that shot b.s., every time in my head i answered "not with that attitude". Even with this miracle fix club, you still need a positive attitude and to visulize the shot you want to happen. Nothing changed, your just hitting a modified pitching wedge. But you feel more positive about the shot so it goes better. There is no vodoo clubs that are unhittable, just mindsets that make them that way.
