One small detail in your golf grip could be creating tension throughout your entire swing.

Mike Malaska explains how excessive pressure from the lead thumb can tighten the wrist, elbow and shoulder, encourage you to push the club from the top, and cause your wrists to unhinge too early.

The lead thumb shouldn’t push against the golf club—it should simply stabilize it.

In this lesson, Mike demonstrates a simple drill: remove the lead thumb from the club, feel how freely the wrist can move, and then replace the thumb with only light contact. This allows the weight of the club to move naturally without unnecessary tension restricting your wrist action.
