If you’re an older golfer who has lost distance, you don’t need to hit the ball 250 yards or launch towering iron shots to break 90.

In this lesson, I’m playing four holes of what I call “Old Man Golf” to show you how just three simple, low-risk shots can get you around the golf course without bringing big numbers into play.

The goal is simple: keep the ball in play, keep it low, avoid trouble and never make worse than bogey.

I’ll show you the little bunt driver that doesn’t require a lot of speed, the low L-to-L iron and hybrid shot you can use to advance the ball without trying to get it high in the air, and a simple bump-and-run around the green that takes the chunk, blade and high-spin shot out of play.

And these aren’t short, easy holes.

We start on a 527-yard par 5 and play four legitimate golf holes while deliberately avoiding the shots most golfers think they’re supposed to hit.

You’ll see some good shots, some bad shots and even a chunked fairway wood that still leaves me in perfectly good position.

That’s the whole point.

You don’t have to hit great golf shots to play good golf.

There are no extra points for how high you hit it, how pretty your swing looks or how far you hit your driver.

Low golf shots can be high-percentage golf shots.

Learn these three shots, play to the safe side of the hole and give yourself a chance to steal a few pars while making stress-free bogeys.

That’s Old Man Golf.

And it actually works.

You don’t need more speed or a prettier golf swing to break 90.

You need shots you can repeat, misses you can survive and a strategy that keeps doubles and triples off the scorecard.

What You’ll Learn:

How to hit a controlled bunt driver

Why you shouldn’t fight your natural ball flight

How to use a low L-to-L swing with irons, hybrids and fairway woods

Why keeping the ball lower can make golf easier

How to choose the safe side of every hole

Why a bad shot in the right place can still produce a good score

How to use an 8-iron bump-and-run instead of a high-risk wedge shot

The simple BLT setup for shots around the green

When to use the Texas wedge

Why stress-free bogeys are good when you’re trying to break 90

How to give yourself opportunities to “steal” pars

Why golf doesn’t have to look pretty to produce good scores

  1. OMG golf! I learned this from matty boom boom. And I’m working on the 30 day challenge now. So far your videos have been by far the most helpful for my swing. The way you explain all the reasons behind the problem are spot on.
