Hukanui Brown will be missed at the Poverty Bay Men’s Open.
The ’Tahi’s undisputed No 1 golfer is not playing in Poverty Bay Golf Club’s pre-eminent men’s tournament, which starts on Thursday, and last weekend indicated it is likely he would have been in the championship 16 mix.
Brown won the Division 1 men’s Stableford with an even-par 70-+1-71, for 35 points, while Lindsay Jamieson’s 36 topped Division 2 and Kim Torrez won the women’s section with 38.

Poverty Bay
Stefan Andreassen topped the men’s qualifying for the Primo Cup finals day, but won’t be winning it.
Andreassen is away for the October 3 finals, at which the men’s and women’s champions will be decided.
Twenty-eight spots were up for grabs for the men’s final – players earning points at various club competitions.
From the seven events he competed in, Andreassen finished on 254 points, five points ahead of Ross Chalmers with Matt Henwood third on 232.
Men’s club captain Peter Hakiwai was among those who took the opportunity to play the composite course layout on Sunday in the lead-up to the Emerre and Hathaway Poverty Bay Men’s Open, which tees off on Thursday.
And Hakiwai relished it, the former Poverty Bay-East Coast representative firing 79-12-67 for 41 points, including a homeward nine of 1-over 37, to win the Division 1 men’s Stableford.
Gray Clapham, getting around the course on a bicycle adapted to carry his clubs, won Division 2 with 90-18-72 for 38 points, despite a 10 on the par-4 seventh hole.
