Before you hit another iron shot, start doing this before every single swing.

Put your feet together and position the ball dead in the center of your feet.

One of the biggest problems I see with iron play is inconsistent ball position. One swing the ball is too far forward. The next it’s too far back. And when your ball position keeps changing, the bottom of your swing has to keep changing with it.

In this lesson, I’ll show you a simple step-by-step setup that gives you the same ball position every time and helps you create a better path, square the clubface and make more consistent ball-first contact.

We’ll start with your feet together and the ball centered, aim the clubface at a small, specific target, add the shoulder preset move and closed-face grip, then take equal steps into your stance while keeping a little more pressure on your lead side.

Then we’ll take that setup onto a par 3 and put it into action.

You’ll also learn why you should stop firing at every flag, why taking one or even two extra clubs can improve your iron play, and how a smooth three-quarter backswing can help you make more solid contact and dramatically reduce your misses.

The goal isn’t to hit perfect iron shots.

It’s to build a simple, repeatable setup and stock iron swing that helps you hit more greens and shoot lower scores.
