Use This Simple Golf Tip To Hit Your Irons Further

Want to hit the golf ball further but struggle to make a longer backswing?

In this Danny Maude golf lesson, you’ll learn how to create more distance without needing a huge golf swing.

This is particularly useful for golfers with limited mobility, golfers recovering from injury, senior golfers, or anyone who simply feels more comfortable making a shorter backswing.

Using one of Danny Maude’s favourite golf drills, this golf instruction video shows you how to improve your strike, create more clubhead speed and learn how to “catapult” the golf club through impact so you can generate effortless power with the swing you already have.

In this golf lesson, you’ll learn:

• How to hit the golf ball further with a short backswing
• Why you don’t need a longer golf swing to create more distance
• The finish position that helps improve ball striking
• Why the trail shoulder is so important through impact
• How to stop lunging towards the golf ball
• How to create more clubhead speed without swinging harder
• The “Longest Putt” golf drill for effortless power
• How to use sound to improve golf swing acceleration
• Why a shorter golf swing can improve your strike
• How to transfer this feeling into your full swing and driver

If you struggle with golf distance because your golf swing feels short, restricted or powerless, this is a brilliant golf drill to practise.

The key to hitting irons longer isn’t simply making a bigger backswing. It’s learning how to organise the body correctly, improve the quality of your strike and accelerate the golf club at the right moment through impact. This simple golf tip is incredible if you struggle to make a full golf swing. Danny helps many senior golfers hit driver straight while also helping them hit driver longer. This is one of his go to golf tips.

  1. Thanks, Danny! One big breakthrough I had this year was, after having been watching your videos for a long time, picturing the club in space with that (lovely!) arc and considering it my job to just make sure it travels that path. ONE BONUS TIP: if you're going to use an alignment stick for creat8ng that woosh sound, wear a glove and hold it more tightly than you would your driver. My car has been wearing its "badge of honor" for years since my first attempt launched the stick as a javelin…

  2. Good morning Danny
Can you please remind everyone to make sure you follow through on every shot. Most amateur golfers ( myself included) tend to hit the ball but don't follow through the hit, the follow through is key

  3. I just started playing again after a twenty-year layoff. I'm retired and can afford the time and money to play every week with at least two days of range time. I was never very consistent, but I had played since I was 11. I needed a new set of clubs and apparently when you are older, senior clubs do help (they do), though I was hesitant since I'm in good shape. I was fitted for a set, and the shop had a simulator to help. I was hitting my 9 iron 167 yards and still trying to do better when the salesman pointed out, I was already doing fine. I didn't know the usual distance except for the 1 wood. Turns out I was doing very good, lol. I appear to have finally tamed my slice. Now I must get my chipping under control, I will 3 chip from 80 yards and ruin my score 3 or 4 times an outing. My putting is acceptable. Danny has really helped my slices and gives solid advice.

  4. Jeez another gem. How many game changers can you keep delivering. My 7 iron is about 140 now, what are the chances… My left shoulder has always been on top dropping it down may prove to be the tip needed.

  5. Wow! You just put into words and video what I stumbled upon a few months back! I shortened my backswing and played so well for a few weeks. I couldn’t explain what I was doing so very difficult to recreate. This video nails it! Love your videos and look forward to hopefully meeting you to thank you personally.

  6. I feel the swish sound of the catapult occurs as a result of the wrists being released just before ball contact . . . my other observation concerns a more pronounced shoulder tilt at set up . . . I believe in other DM iron videos it is suggested that one's shoulders are more level at set up with weight more on the lead foot . . . if I have this right is the increased shoulder tilt a function of having the ball positioned a little more towards the front foot rather than positioned 50 / 50? . . . by the way on Thursday night I shot a 38 . . . first two holes were bogeys, I parred the next 6 and then bogied the 9th . . . sun was starting to set so only was able to play 10-12 where I bodied each . . . I have never had such a par run . . . and of greater importance to me than the score . . . my drives were in the fairway – 240 – 275 yards, my second shots were on or just off the green and there was no three putting . . I actually played the game like it should be and actually felt my shots were going to where I aimed and wanted them to go . . . not sure if I will ever repeat this but thank you DM and now I will head out to the back yard to continue working out using your recommendation to split hands with an iron and to get that feeling of the club coming down, the face not getting past ones hands and then turning . . . lastly with my two buddies I play with we joke about what might be most important . . . the ball I started with was the one I ended with and along the way I found a ball so was . . . "plus 1" . . . for the night . . . we are a bunch of nearly 70 yr old guys and even at this age finding a golf ball provides such a nice feeling, lol!
