Neil Schuster works with Titleist’s Lucas Wald to test the new Vokey SM11 wedges and refine his lob and sand wedge setup.
The fitting focuses on grind selection, turf interaction, strike location, launch and spin. Lucas explains how the SM11 lineup uses the center-of-gravity characteristics of the Tour-proven T Grind, then compares several grind options through a blind test.
Testing shows that the 58-degree low-bounce K Grind produces Neil’s best combination of contact, flight and spin. Its sole and trailing edge also perform well from tight lies, rough and open-face shots.
Neil also compares 54- and 58-degree wedges around the green and from the bunker. The 54-degree 14F provides a lower, more controlled option, while the 58-degree K Grind offers additional loft and versatility for shorter or more demanding shots.
The final setup pairs a 58-degree low-bounce K Grind with a 54-degree 14F, giving Neil two distinct options for different lies, trajectories and short-game situations.
