BOARDMAN OH—Stella Mitchell may only be a sophomore, but she’s already setting herself apart as one of the region’s top young golfers—and her ambition doesn’t stop on the fairway. Mitchell’s reputation is backed by a sterling season, consistently posting impressive scores and leading the Boardman Spartans with poise beyond her years. “I’ve just been working really hard, and it’s nice to know it’s paying off,” she says, crediting both diligence and determination for her success.

Her rapid development is fueled by the supportive atmosphere within the Boardman team, especially from senior leader Gianna. Mitchell describes her as a role model whose guidance has helped her grow not just as a player but as a confident young leader. “She’s just so great. I’m just trying to follow in her footsteps and do my best,” Mitchell explains.

The sophomore’s passion for golf has deep family roots. Her father, a lifelong golfer, is instrumental in her progress—offering hands-on advice, researching the best equipment, and being present for every milestone. “If I ever have a problem with my swing or anything, he’ll fix it right there and then. He’s just always been there to help me with everything,” says Mitchell.

Success on the course doesn’t come at the expense of other pursuits. In addition to her golf responsibilities, Mitchell competes on the varsity tennis team—a rare feat since both sports are played in the fall—and remains firmly committed to her academics. “Academics are first and then golf is second,” she notes, emphasizing careful time management and a balanced approach to her busy schedule.

Mitchell is also well aware of the mental side of tournament play, recognizing that golf is as much about composure and focus as it is about technical skill. She maintains perspective by focusing on each shot, embracing the scenic beauty of the course, and refusing to be daunted by adversity or difficult weather.

Above all, Mitchell remains deeply grateful for the encouragement from her family, coaches, and the broader Boardman community. She treasures the chance to represent the Spartans and hopes to inspire others by playing her best and embodying school spirit both on and off the course. With her work ethic, humility, and drive, Boardman’s rising star looks primed for even greater things in the seasons ahead.
