Charleston, W.Va.—The Wheeling University Cardinals Men’s Golf team placed fourth in the Golden Eagle Invitation. The Cardinals’ team had the best score in program history through the first round. They had a combined score of 273, which beat the previous record of 284 set in 2023, by 11 strokes.
Cardinals sophomore Lodin Femoen shot the best for the Cardinals, finishing three under par. He started the first round with a birdie on hole two, then he picked up two bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes. Lowering his score on the front nine to -1, he picked up two more birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. He finished the first round with two more birdies in the 11th and 13th holes. The second round was up and down for Femoen. He picked up five birdies and five bogeys to settle for par in round two.
Coming in next place was graduate student Sean Dobson, finishing tied for 11th place. He started out on fire in the first round, birdying four holes on the front nine and only one bogey. He continued the success, birdying two more in the back nine and finishing -5 in the first round. In the first six holes of the second round, he secured two more birdies before picking up three bogeys and two double bogeys. He finished even on the day.
Freshman Cormac Pearson finished tied for 18th place and the next Cardinal in the rankings. He finished the first round on fire, shooting three birdies and no bogeys. The second round hurt him as he picked up four bogeys and a quadruple bogey. He also had three birdies in the second round. Pearson finished +2 on the day.
Finally, sophomore Elias Ekenes-Fosback finished out the top four for the Cardinals, placing tied for 41st place. He was plus seven on the day.
The Cardinals are back at it tomorrow for the second day of the Golden Eagle Invitation. They will tee off at 9 a.m.
