HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) – Lots of wind and gusts did not stop Copper Country businesses from enjoying a day of golf and fun.
The Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce held its 28th annual Golf Outing Wednesday at the Portage Lake Golf Course. The chamber says 170 golfers made up 42 teams that participated this year. Starting with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., the teams made their way around the course for an 18-hole scramble, all aiming for a variety of prizes. Other contests, from 50/50 tickets to a ‘Best Dressed’ contest, were also dotted across the course.
“The goal behind this outing is to raise awareness about what the chamber has and its benefits to our community and our business members,” Chamber Manager Katie Schlief said. “And raising money for networking funds throughout the year.”
Schlief says the outing also acts as a day to connect with area businesses, groups, and municipalities.
“It truly is special when you can hold an event for 28 years,” Schlief added. “You see some of the same familiar faces just coming out here and enjoying the day… People look forward to getting out of the office and having that relationship and those conversations.”
Schlief wants to thank all sponsors and partners who helped out to make this year’s outing possible.
