Golfers in the Ottawa Valley will have a chance to compete for a trip to one of Canada’s top golf destinations this summer as two local courses prepare to host qualifiers for the PGA Scramble presented by BMW.
Now in its 11th year, the PGA Scramble has grown into the country’s largest grassroots amateur golf program, with more than 12,000 golfers taking part across Canada last year and more than 185 qualifying events scheduled this season.
Two Ottawa Valley qualifiers are on tap this summer, with Whitetail Golf Club hosting an event on June 14 and Renfrew Golf Club hosting another on July 19.
Registration for the Whitetail event closes June 4, with space for a maximum of 20 teams, while registration for the Renfrew qualifier closes July 9.
The competition is open to teams of four amateur golfers aged 19 and older, with all participants required to have an up-to-date Golf Canada handicap.
Teams compete in an 18-hole scramble format at the local qualifier stage, with winning teams advancing to one of 13 regional finals later this summer. At the regional level, qualifying teams are joined by a PGA of Canada professional from their home course to form a five-player team competing in an Ambrose elimination scramble.
Regional champions then advance to the PGA Scramble National Championship, scheduled for Oct. 3 to 7 at Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs in Nova Scotia.
The national championship includes three rounds of golf, social events, contests and a closing gala. Organizers have also guaranteed two spots in the national final field for all-female teams.
The PGA Scramble entry fee is $39.95 per golfer for local qualifiers, plus any applicable green fees charged by the host course. Organizers say participants who register through SCOREGolf.com can also enter prize draws, including contests covering registration costs and a separate getaway prize for one non-qualifying team.
The PGA Scramble presented by BMW continues to expand nationwide, with organizers expecting more than 10,000 amateur golfers to compete this year in hopes of reaching the national final at Cabot Cape Breton.
More information and registration details are available through the PGA Scramble website.
