Every golfer who can’t stop slicing their driver is making the same mistake — pulling the arms hands and club in towards them instead of throwing the club head away. Eric Cogorno breaks down the exact three-part driver lesson he used on Trackman to add 25 to 30 yards to a student’s driver in one hour. The formula is simple: away not towards, farther not closer, freely released not held on. Watch how Rory McIlroy’s driver swing demonstrates all three moves — and how the tabletop drill gives any golfer the same feel before they ever hit a ball. These driver swing tips apply whether you’re fighting pulls and slices or simply want to know how to increase driver distance without swinging harder. If you leave this video without trying the tabletop drill, you’re leaving 25 yards and a consistent draw on the table.

What You’ll Learn:
• Why pulling the arms hands and club in towards you causes pulls slices and golf chicken wing
• The tabletop drill: how to train the feeling of throwing the club head away not pulling it in
• How to stop slicing your driver by learning to throw the club head out and away not in and close
• How the Rory McIlroy driver swing demonstrates perfect club head throw and free release
• How getting the club head farther from your body increases golf club head speed and driver distance
• The free release: elbow slightly down glove logo down toe passing heel through impact
• How to increase driver distance by 25 to 30 yards with three simple driver swing tips
• How to hit a draw with driver by combining the throw away free release and natural rotation

  1. Eric, I don’t have the problem with throwing my club head but I continue to close the face at impact and over draw/hook my drives. I hit them straight sometimes. What can I work on to keep my face square? Thank you!

  2. Can't thank you enough Eric. The bad visual in your video is so me and this video really fixed me. I watch so many golf videos especially yours and this one really clicked with me.

  3. I find when I throw out I’ll tend stand up. Also Is this is just for driver?, because I see pros hitting their irons, their hands are so close to their thighs.

  4. Eric, Great video as usual. I have the same question several other viewers have asked. Will this same principle work for irons? Just release slightly later than with the driver to maintain shaft lean and compression of the iron?

  5. So … swing coach app has me shallow at take away, shallow in downswing and yet I hit slices …

And videos on that ? 🙂

To fix the app – I have to feel like I’m throwing the club out – but it freaks me out because that seems like it would have me going out to in

I think my too far inside causes me to adjust and pull the club across the ball

  6. How do you feel about the idea you’re seeing and hearing more often of throwing the ball earlier in the down swing. Definitely helped me release but it also got my path farther left than I’d want.

  7. I love this! I've definitely been pulling in, not throwing the clubhead out. If I don't come around more to eliminate my hook, can I open the clubface to eliminate the hook? BTW, keep these great mini-lessons coming!

  8. Trying to cure my terminal duck hook (probably under rotating my body). Thanks for the last bit of advice about throwing more around your body 👍🏻

  9. Hi Eric – I’ve tried this feeling and it’s such a good speed generator. My issue is that I’ll sometimes hit the ball low and on the heel when I do this. I figure I should toss it more around then out then? Good video!

  10. Eric. I've been struggling with driver for at least 5 years and I took this out to the range today and it cured me!!! I was carrying uphill about 225 so this will easily get me a 240 drive with additional rollout. Question. How does this translate to irons?
