County Commission members receive a letter from an attorney representing the club

Allen ConePALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. —

President Donald Trump wants his Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach to be turned over to the federal government for permanent use by his successors.

Lawyer Harvey Oyer III, an attorney who represents the golf course, wrote to Palm Beach County commissioners Thursday, saying, “TIGC proposes to partner with Palm Beach County to create a perpetual and truly unique opportunity and asset for the community – designating TIGC as the permanent United States Presidential Golf Course, to be utilized by all past, current, and future United States Presidents and visiting foreign heads of state.

“This proposal is rooted in President’s Trump deep affection for Palm Beach County, which is his home, the home of two of his children, many of his grandchildren, and the location of the recently renamed President Donald J. Trump Boulevard and President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

The letter continues, “He believes, as do you, that Palm Beach County is one of the most special and beautiful places on Earth and a place worthy of showcasing to world leaders and future U.S. Presidents.”

The attorneys said the golf course is “one of the most secure golf courses in the world equipped with the most advanced security and protection systems, making it ideal for such a use.”

TIGC will provide all facilities at no cost to the federal government and work with the General Services Administration and United States Secret Service to design an appropriate presidential lodging facility on the property. TIGC would pay the cost of constructing the presidential lodging facility.

“This is a gift that the President would like to share with his successors, the people of America, and his fellow Palm Beach County residents. It should be noted that President Trump will be out of office before this proposed project could be completed so this is a gift to his successors,” the letter reads.

In a statement provided to ABC News, County Administrator Joseph Abruzzo praises the proposal, comparing it to the honor of hosting a presidential library.

“This has the potential to be a remarkable and historic opportunity for Palm Beach County,” Abruzzo said. “County administration is eager to get into the details and fully explore what this proposal could mean for our community and its future.”
President Dwight Eisenhower donated his Gettysburg Farm to the National Park Service and Franklin Roosevelt gave part of his Hyde Park estate for public use.

About the course

Trump frequently golfs at Trump International at 3505 Summit Blvd. near the city of West Palm Beach.

The property consists of an 18-hole, par-72 Championship Course and a nine-hole, par-36 Trump Nine Course.

The courses, designed by Jim Fazio, opened in 1992 as the first property built in the Trump Organization’s golf division.

The course hosted the LPGA Tour’s ADT Championship from 2001 to 2008.

There was an attempt on Trump’s life at the course in September 2024.

Ryan Wesley Routh hid in the shrubbery along the golf course’s sixth hole for roughly 12 hours with a loaded semiautomatic rifle. Before Trump came into view, a U.S. Secret Service agent spotted the rifle barrel poking through the fence line and opened fire. Routh fled the scene in an SUV without firing a shot and was apprehended by deputies on Interstate 95 in nearby Martin County.

Routh is serving a life sentence after a jury found him guilty in 2025 of trying to kill Trump.
