Whispering Pines, Hole No. 8
Based on the scorecard alone, Hole 8 at Whispering Pines Golf Course in Cadott could be considered a chance to help your score.
The shortest Par-4 on the course, the green is reachable with a 260-yard drive — but things are not that easy. The green is on an island and a slight fade off the tee is required to get over the water while too much slice will carry a drive out of bounds. The creek guarding the green is also steep and most golfers air on the side of caution with a shorter tee shot and chip in attempt for a doable birdie putt.
Whispering Pines owner/general manager Todd Rykal said the hole has seen only a single hole in one in the course’s history and is a true risk/reward that sparks conversations that keeps golfers coming back for another try.
Lake Wissota, Hole No. 10
The start of the back nine at Lake Wissota Golf Course in Chippewa Falls begins with a bang as golfers tangle with a new offering.
The hole is between 80-165 yards and part of changes made to the first two holes of the back nine, essentially flipping the distances between holes 10 (now a par 3) and 11 (now a par 4) to give even longtime golfers on the course a new challenge with water around to add to the difficulty.
The newly renovated holes will be open for play beginning Sept. 11.
Bloomer Memorial, Hole No. 12
The shortest hole on this list is at Bloomer Veterans Memorial Golf Course with one of the two Par-3s on the back nine.
Measuring in at 100 yards from the blue tees, 92 from the whites and 84 from the reds, No. 12 offers a unique challenge that goes beyond its short distance. The hole is placed at the top of a hill, between the uphill No. 11 and downhill No. 13 and is surrounded on the left side and back by houses with woods on the right side.
