There is a reason refs exist is basically every other sport. Players should not have to call each other out, that will never been consistent.
The best thing that ever happened to disc golf content creators.
It is a hard thing to say. Cause you will see this happen in football games where there is a bad call. But if Rainer played more conservative down the stretch and didn’t throw 4 bogeys, it wouldn’t have mattered if he was called. Going in to the B9 with a 5 stroke lead, it was his tournament to lose. Those bogeys are what made this call matter.
Using football as a comparison again, they have multiple refs on the field for every game. Plus they have video review. The DGPT doesn’t have the resources for that and the NFL still misses calls. I think the PDGA needs to invest in improvements. There should be a Marshall on the top 4 cards in the final round. The Marshall should be the only one to make calls.
Congrats to Silas and Rainer for an excellent tournament and final round.
It was behind the mini between the hole and the mini
I've watched every tournament for the last 15 years. I don't think I'll ever watch professional disc golf ever again. Feel like I wasted so much time watching all 5 rounds.
About a month back I mentioned somewhere online that I think professional disc golf (PDGA or whoever) is taking dg in the wrong direction. Too many dumb rules and too many big contracts. Less wooded courses in favor of repurposed golf greens to support bigger and bigger drives. It's just starting to look like PGA. People go on about how the sport is growing and that's a good thing. Is it?
Fuck goose 🪿. He is 10 back??????? So why's he talking 👄
He was mad 😠. Because he can't finish!!!!!!!!!!at alll look🎉🎉😮goose
If you or him put a disc down you would b behind it. So????
If it was really about the rules they would have called Rainers on 15 or on 18 on the approach but NO only that one moment. A call made by an angry MVP player, to help another MVP team player that was arguably not a foot fault and no other calls made on any other shots.
In football (soccer for most of you) they made Morocco Champions of Africa 2 MONTHS AFTER the game had ended for the other team…. Just saying. Rainers should be the World Champ but feel bad for Silas because he played well and what could he do about it.
Sucks, but still had a chance to win in a playoff
I respectfully disagree. Especially considering he pushed a branch out of his way on hole 15 illegally
To be fair rainers had worse moments where he cheated pulling limbs out his way and etc.
Total BS, what a stain on the sport. Never in a million years should that foot fault have been called.
The Closest Gossage will ever be to a world title, or pro tour win.
the footage you show of the fault is not the best angle, there are at least two other views that clearly show the fault and it would've been better to show all the angles and make your argument from there.
The Goose took over 30-seconds on 20 throws during the Worlds and was never called. How ironic!
let me be clear, i do not blame Silas for what happened to Rainers. however, i HATED the way he reacted after the round knowing what transpired. before you celebrate with your friends, you IMMEDIATELY go over to Rainers, give him a hug, acknowledge to him that you know it was brutal how it all happened, then accept the trophy, smile, interviews, party with friends after. Yeah, i understand the excitement and everything, but he should have shown at least a hint of feel bad. I did not like that at all.
everyone else can chant goooose. when i see him. i will be chanting DOOOOOUCHE
Since the ref agreed with the player’s call immediately, I see no fault on the part of the player. If the players can call fouls like that per the rules then it’s part of the game, ubfortunately. My two cents is that the players should perhaps not have the ability to call fouls on the others, and rely on the refs, just so the players are not put in this bad PR position. Or perhaps give the players one or two challenges per game that they can either use to challenge a call made against them or to challenge a call made or not made on another player, must happen immediately, and the the refs make the final call. Nobody likes players arguing with each other or arguing with refs. So just about anything to stop that behavior is good IMO. End of the day if it were up to me, only refs can make calls, the calls must be accepted, no arguing or penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, and max one challenge per game, assuming there is enough coverage and organization to allow it. 😊
Probably not going to be a popular view, but if a rule is only going to apply when the mob is ok with it, then change the rule. The degree to which people are willing to switch from fans to all-out haters in five minutes says more about the fans than it does about the officiating. As others have said, having other players officiate will inevitably lead to this sort of drama. How in the world are you supposed to decide when an infraction is serious enough to call out? Everybody hating on Gossage needs to take a deep breath and think about that question. Maybe less drama, and more suggestions on how to make fuzzy rules work. Every sport has rules which seems unfair at times and are applied anyway. Is the argument that it wasn't a fault or that faults should only be called when the internet mob is going to be ok with it? Calvinball, anyone?
We all know that MacBeth and Buhr have called out other players at important moments. Props to Gossage for having the testicular fortitude to call out the foot fault. He didn’t want to and it didn’t alter his outcome. Player’s shouldn’t have to put their fandom, career and popularity on the line if they believe rules should be respected. The official seconded the call, but he should have been first.
Is it fair tonsay the Aaron's goose may be cooked. His fans are done being fans. Now he's just the albatross of bad calls
I'd really like to hear Silas' take on this.
Balodis was conned. Simple.
With all due respect, worlds as just another random tournament with an extra round or two is an embarrassment to the idea of a world championship…randos shouldn’t have a chance at these and the idea that some random player who shows up and has a good day could win a world championship makes me want to stop watching the sport. Championships are earned through consistency and truly incorporating the world and a single event no matter where it’s located can and never will do that. The tour championship is by definition 1000x better, more difficult to win and better representation of the sport as a championship tier event because it took the whole year to accumulate the points required to be invited and win it. Worlds is an embarrassment simply by its format and you’ll never change my mind on that as long as it exists like this. The fact that people are mad that a rando didn’t win is upsetting to me.
First of all it was a foot fault. His foot was no where near legal. If you have done your research you would know that part of the reason he didn't say anything is because this isn't even the first time he has foot faulted in a tournament. Also if you watch the entire shot you can see that on his last walk through his foot was in a totally different, legal, spot. If you want to nit pick by the way, you are right that it shouldn't have been an issue because on the par 5 he horribly broke the rules and pushed the branches in front of him out of the way, and nothing was called. Even the commentators were pointing it out. If you were truly a Silas fan you wouldn't have the regret that you talk about. I 100000000% agree that the method of enforcing rules with the PDGA need to change, the current system sucks for everyone involved.
Glad you made this video. I’m with you 100%
So in your video immediately after you focus on the call, that was a foot fault on the very next hole. He does the exact same thing, but nobody calls him on it at all. So was it just a foot fault for you know, that one moment shouldn't have been the same. He literally stepped to the left of his marker now. The thing about the marker as far as I'm concerned. You got a basically a 9 / 12 space. Behind that marker that is your disk, that is your inbound. Range, so I think his foot would have been involved with it. And it should not have been a football
Agreed 💯 🎉! Thanks for sharing this!
Rainers won worlds.
That call was garbage and everyone knows it, and will know it for eternity.
Picking on a new guy to save your bro
If you don't like the fact we are self governed, change it. Otherwise don't bitch about someone following the rules. If you don't agree with the call I will ask were you there? My friend was on crowd control for lead card on Sunday. He said The marshal 2nd the call so quickly that he either agreed with Aaron, or he saw enough violations by Rainers during the round that he was like finally someone called him on a violation. If you watched Rainers on 18 in regular play and the play off hole he foot faulted again. This is after he was penalized! I was on 11 spotting, the crowds were crazy. They were lining the fairways 4 -5 deep.
RAINERS IS THE WINNER IN OUR EYES
Silas has ONE major win and it was cheap as hell bc of Goose…I would hate that hanging over my one biggest win of my career. Rainers was robbed
Now knowing that Goose was already raging, makes this even more suspicious of a call. Love Silas but agree that Rainers should of won.
Did anyone else see Silas's possible foot fault on hole 7 of the last round? It seemed like a situation where the line of play was also crooked and it would have been a close call.
@16:50 ..enough said. Shame on you Gossage
It’s a foot fault he was on the side of his marker not behind it. The guy making this video is smoking too much pot
Rainers got robbed after details analysis…this close it shouldn't have been called anyway…anyway I would set them both up for one full round rematch on that course…it would be most viewed and get most life spectators…pay per view even…
Same same!
cant spell gossage without "ass" and "ego" haha
TD didn't want to look like he wasn't paying attention. Uh, yeah, I saw that too. Really sucks for Silas too. It'll always be questioned
You hit the nail on the head!!!
I agree with everything you said!!!!
No mention of the blatant cheating by Rainers on hole 15. Tsk tsk and you were right there?
