Rivesh Kumar and Parvez Ahmed have won the August edition of the Jumeirah Pairs at Jumeirah Golf Estates, carding a net 55 to finish four shots clear of the field on the Fire course.
Eighty members and guests took part in the event on Sunday, August 23, which was played in a Pairs Shambles format for the first time this season. Both players in each team tee off, the better of the two drives is selected, and from there each plays their own ball to the completion of the hole.
Kumar and Ahmed’s 17-under-par total put daylight between them and the chasing pack from early in the round. Hash Kapadia and Tara Hession Kapadia took the runner-up spot in the Net Division on 58, with Vajahat Hussain and Afzal Ahmad third on 59.
“The Pairs Shambles was a great format and it made for a really enjoyable day,” said Kumar. “To finish on 17 under and come away with the win is fantastic, especially with such strong scoring throughout the field. Parvez and I worked really well together, and we’re delighted to take the title.”
In the Gross Division, Ed East and Kieran Casey won on countback after a round of 66, six under par, following a tie with their nearest challengers.
Michael Major, Director of Golf at Jumeirah Golf Estates, praised the standard of scoring across the field. “The August Jumeirah Pairs was another fantastic addition to our Member events calendar, with 80 golfers enjoying a competitive and social day on the Fire course,” he said. “The scoring was exceptional, particularly from our winning pair, and the Pairs Shambles format provided a fresh challenge for everyone involved.”
Neil Gallagher took on TFA coach and PGA professional Jackson Bell in a Beat the Pro challenge on the second hole, while Stuart Mackie won Nearest the Pin on both the eighth and 14th.
The Jumeirah Pairs runs monthly at Jumeirah Golf Estates as part of the club’s programme of Member competitions.
