President Donald Trump has accepted an invitation to serve as honorary chairman of the upcoming Presidents Cup, and will travel to the Chicago area next month.
On his Truth Social platform this weekend, the president confirmed he had been asked by the PGA TOUR to serve as honorary chairman for the biennial event, which will be played at Medinah Country Club’s Course No. 3.
“This will be a particularly exciting event,” Trump said. “Both teams are “loaded” with Talent. I look forward to being there, and greeting all of these fantastic athletes, on both teams! Thank you for your attention to this matter. See you in Chicago!”
The event pits 12 players from the United States and 12 players from non-European countries against one another in a match play tournament, culminating with 12 singles matches on the final day of competition.
The United States has never lost the tournament, though the teams did tie in the 2003 event in South Africa.
Traditionally, the Presidents Cup has invited the political leader of the host country to be the honorary chairman. Former Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton have all served in the role.
Captain Brandt Snedeker’s team will feature Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young and Wyndham Clark, and he will have the opportunity to make six more captains picks before the tournament gets underway on September 24.
Geoff Ogilvy will serve as captain of the international team, and the six automatic qualifiers will be set after the conclusion of the TOUR Championship Sunday. Six more captains picks will fill out the remainder of the roster.
The biennial competition will take place September 24-27 at Medinah Country Club, and tournament coverage will air on NBC.
