Golf Grip Sizes EXPLAINED: Standard, Midsize, Jumbo, Plus4

Golf grip size does a lot more than change how the club feels — it changes swing weight, face angle at impact, and where you strike it.
We break down standard, midsize, jumbo and Jumbo Max, what Plus4 actually means, plus grip materials, brands and what they really cost.
Stick around for the ball-striking test at 8:13 — we caught the face 3.7 degrees closed on one grip, and on the biggest grips it was almost impossible to turn over.

Alex and Tayte go through the full grip lineup and why grips are the most slept-on part of your equipment. We explain what Plus4 really means (less taper and a fuller lower hand, roughly four extra wraps of tape) and cover grip materials — tacky rubber, full cord, and multi-material MCC grips — plus why an Align style rib helps you place your hands the same way every single time. At 2:32 we put a club on the swing weight scale: a standard grip reads D5, a midsize Plus4 reads D1.7, three full swing weights from nothing but a grip change. At 6:32 we get into cost, from $4-$6 Tour Velvet style grips up to around $14 for Align Max, and what that gap adds up to across 13 clubs. Then we hit balls — Alex fights a left miss, and the bigger the grip got, the harder it was to turn the face over. Between the shop and our own bags we’ve had hands on well over 70 different grips over the years, and if you’re slicing or hooking it, your grips might be part of the problem.

  1. Wish you guys showed the effect of grips on the golf bags. When you go larger grips does it create more club grab/tangle in most golf bags? Worth a video? Keep up the good work, fellas.

  2. I have some serious arthritis issues with my hands. While I wear a cadet small glove, I have found 2 grips that work well for me. The Winn Dri-Tac LT Midsize for irons and Golf Pride Tour Velvet Plus 4 Golf Grip Midsize for woods/hybrids. Both are less taper and that is a game changer.

  3. I use the JumboMax Zen Lite standard on my drivers and woods. larger than the +4 but not overly large. Makes the driver feel solid and I dont turn it over. If you do a video on Jumbomax compare the regulars vs the Zen lites. I find the zen lites to be better.

  4. 9 times 13 is 117 😂. The simple way to do it fever is do 10×13=130 then subtract 13 from it which will give you 117. Always remember because 9×3=26. Your last number at the units place has to be a a 7. You can also do 9 times 10 and add 27 to it.

  5. Switched to all jumbo grips, put Jumbomax xl on my driver to test it out. Kind of like the combo set of xl on woods and regular jumbo on the irons, still seems crazy to put an xl jumbomax on irons. But, maybe next year.

  6. I'm experimenting with a Jumbo Size on one of my Wilson Staff Model CB Irons to see if I like it….. When it comes to grips and the price you pay, if you buy a super durable grip you can get many years out of them. I game the IOMIC Sticky Mid 4.4 nowadays they are $18.50 a pop when they used to be $15.50 BUT I can get multiple years of use out of them. I golf 80-100 rounds per year and just a quick scrub with soapy water and they are good as new.

I've been gaming the IOMIC Grips for over 10 years
