The Mulligan’s Island mini-golf and driving range complex in Cranston is being sold.
Mulligan’s Island Golf & Entertainment announced Wednesday, Aug. 19, that it’s selling the 64-acre property on New London Avenue to Golf Ranch, a Dallas-based network of high-tech driving ranges that aims to be an alternative to Topgolf.
Terms of the sale, which is expected to close Sept 1., were not disclosed by the parties.
The final day of operation under current ownership will be Sept. 20. Renovations are expected to begin the following week, and a reopening is planned for spring 2027.
Mulligans Island opened in 2001. The property had previously been targeted for redevelopment as a Costco wholesale club, but that proposal was dropped in 2020 in the face of community opposition.

Michael Friedman, managing partner of Mulligans Island LLC, said that Golf Ranch will give the facility “the reinvestment it has earned.”
“After twenty-six seasons, the property deserves an investment bigger than any one family can make,” he said in a statement. “I’m proud that what we built here is going to continue and get better.”
A Topgolf competitor?
Golf Ranch is owned by Blue Jeans Golf, a company founded by two former Topgolf executives. Their idea was to create facilities that had some of the entertainment aspects of Topgolf facilities while also attracting serious golfers, co-founder Devin Charhon, who worked in real estate for Topgolf, said in an interview with GolfDigest.
The company’s first purchase was a driving range in 2021 in Brookfield, Connecticut. It has since set up five more locations around the country, two in the Dallas area, two in the Kansas City area and one in Phoenix, Arizona.
The new location in Cranston will be less than two miles from a Topgolf location in the city.
Planned improvements as the Mulligans Island property is turned into a Golf Ranch outpost include the installation of Trackman technology at each hitting bay, a three-bay outdoor center, an extension of the covered tee line and renovations to the mini-golf course, batting cages and short-game practice area.
