LEHIGH TWP., Pa. – A day on a Northampton County golf course is helping make a difference for kids right here in the Lehigh Valley.
69 News Reporter Sydney Kay was in Lehigh Township with a look at an annual event bringing the community together for a cause beyond the course.
The Strength & Love Foundation 4th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament began Sunday and continues until 4 p.m. Monday at 3777 Dogwood Road.
Todd Kent, Chairman of The Strength & Love Foundation, said more than 25 celebrities are paying a visit to the golf course. Actors and a movie producer, as well as figures from the football and baseball worlds, will make an appearance.
Two-time Super Bowl winner with the 49ers Dwight Hicks, Ottis Anderson, a two-time Super Bowl winner who played for the New York Giants, and Steve Lyons, who played for the Boston Red Sox, are among the celebrity visitors.
People will also be able to glimpse two Harlem Globetrotters!
People’s participation helps enrich the lives of children with serious health conditions and medical complexities, the foundation said in a Facebook post. The event will help provide support, resources, and care to families, the foundation said.
On its website, the foundation says it aims to create lasting change, foster inclusivity, and pave the path to a more connected and compassionate world. The foundation says it helps do this through impactful initiatives, educational programs, and community outreach.
The tournament will benefit Camelot for Children, which helps disadvantaged youth in the community.
Camelot for Children Executive Director Emily Werner told Reporter Sydney Kay the Allentown-based nonprofit, which has been in the community for more than 40 years, supports kids 6-19 years old who are dealing with serious chronic or terminal illnesses.
The group also supports their siblings and families as a whole. Werner said the group’s unique model relies on help from community volunteers, including high school students.
“We’re just so grateful” for the celebrities and volunteers who make the golf tournament possible, she said.
Vice Chairman Nate Kline said the tournament also features a Bottle Putt Challenge and a Hit the Canoe Challenge.
Another golf fundraiser at Twin Lakes on Sept. 4 will benefit Camelot for Children.
