My buddy sent me this picture today showing me how close he came to a hole in one. The course has been pure cow pasture garbage for years and is now playing on temp greens with oversized cups. This hole played at sub-100 yards today.
So the question to you all is:
If you aced it would you claim it as,
1) A legitimate hole in one
2) A hole in one with an asterisk *
3) Not a hole in one at all since it wasn’t regulation

I hit a 140yrd ace on a mulligan and I do count it with an asterisk
Asterisk because Talor Gooch wasn’t there. But you could definitely add it to your asterisk tally

short hole to a temp green would be okay but an oversize cup would disqualify it

I was wondering why the ball looked so small. The hole is supposed to be 2.5 x the ball or something like that. This looks like 5-6x the ball

This actually happened to me years ago. I got a hole in one in this exact circumstance, temp green and oversized cup. It was about 80 yards..i didn’t count it. It took me another twenty years to get a legit one.
This would not be a hole-in-one.

I think I’d call it a HIO*. If you ever told the story you’d have to tell the story or give the context. It’s not a legit HIO but it’s as close as you can get.
Depending on the size of the cup or where it hit the cup it could have been a HIO either way.
On a scale of 1-100. I’d give this a 65/100.
I would not personally count it as a hole in one. wouldn’t feel right.
I wouldn’t count it with that basketball hoop there. Unless you buy me a drink.
I’d still drink to it.
