A popular miniature golf course and ice cream spot in Schuylkill County that closed about six years ago has reopened with a new owner, a new name and a number of improvements.
Mulligan’s Ice Cream and Mini Golf opened in late July behind the 183 Plaza strip mall along Route 183 in Wayne Township, a few miles from Schuylkill Haven.
Burnie’s Italian Ice and Mini Golf had operated there for years before it closed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it never fully reopened.
Dan Snyder, who owns Mulligan’s, bought the property from Burnie’s owners in October and has been working to update the 18-hole miniature golf course and building since then.

He said that he wanted to add another family fun spot to the area, especially since there is a shortage of mini-golf courses in Schuylkill County, with the next closest being Heisler’s Dairy Bar in Walker Township near Tamaqua.
“Everybody was sad to see it (Burnie’s) go,” Snyder said. “It was popular, and we wanted to bring it back.”
Snyder has also owned Benny’s Pizza and Burgers in the 183 Plaza mall since 2019, and he co-owns Bogey’s, an indoor golf simulator that opened in January.
“I don’t like to sleep,” he joked of how busy those businesses are keeping him.
Snyder has replaced the greens on Mulligan’s course and done some landscaping while retaining the course’s woodsy feel, with trees providing shade and a number of fountains, ponds and waterfalls adding to the feeling of being in nature.
“It’s really beautiful,” Snyder said of the course. Next year, he hopes to improve the landscaping even more.

Mulligan’s also has a new pavilion, outdoor picnic tables, lights and a playground, along with a new ice cream kitchen.
From counters both inside and outside, the staff serves both hard and soft serve ice cream made by Windy Knoll Farm Market and Creamery in Mechanicsburg, which Snyder said he selected for its premium ingredients and great flavors.
“It costs a little more, but the taste and quality are one of the best around,” Snyder said. “It’s just top-notch.”
There are about two dozen flavors of hard ice cream, ranging from basics like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry to more exotic flavors like dulce de leche, teaberry and Mississippi mud pie. Those same flavors are available as milkshakes.
Soft serve comes in vanilla, chocolate and vanilla/chocolate twist with about 30 toppings also available, including peanuts, marshmallows, chocolate syrup and a variety of crushed candy bars.

Smoothies are also available, with customers able to choose their own ingredients. The menu also offers Mullys, which are Mulligan’s version of flurries.
In the coming days Snyder plans to add a limited food menu of mostly fryer fare, including chicken fingers, fries, pierogies and mozzarella sticks.
Customers who want to bring pizza down from Benny’s also have that option.

Mulligan’s also has a space inside that will become its party room, with families able to rent it for birthdays or other events they’re celebrating, Snyder said.
There will be more video games coming to the arcade section as well, he said.
Staff members, some of whom were also working at Benny’s, have ensured that the opening of Mulligan’s has gone smoothly, he said.
“I’ve been really fortunate to have great workers,” he said. “We’re up and running, and ready to get busier here now.”
