Rangers’ “EMBARRASSING” Result & Shankland AWOL | The Football Show

Peter Martin questions the lack of leaders on the pitch in the Scottish Premiership. Tam McManus believes Hibs fans are waiting for an excuse to call for David Gray’s head at Hibs.
Gordon Parks reckons Falkirk might have a battle to stay up this season. Predictions, arguments and Tam’s hair dominate the show!

Was it really that embarrassing? Peter Martin is joined by Alan Rough, Gordon Parks and Tam McManus for The Football Show, and they open on Rangers’ European night – and the captaincy call that has everyone talking. Lawrence Shankland was named Rangers skipper barely a week ago, yet he was left out and only came on in the 85th minute, with vice-captain Dan Neil wearing the armband and getting hooked at half-time. Does the captain’s armband still mean anything in the Scottish game?

The panel don’t all agree it was a disaster – there’s a case that we underrate the quality of European opposition and that these qualifiers come too soon in the season – but there’s no getting away from the money gap between the Champions League and the Europa League that Rangers now need to bridge on Celtic.

They also send their best wishes to Celtic manager Martin O’Neill, who is recovering after surgery. With O’Neill, 74, out of hospital and in good spirits but a doubt for the dugout, the show asks the difficult questions about his health, his age and the added pressure of a Celtic board that fans are already turning on – with the club still chasing signings before the Champions League qualifier.

Tam McManus doesn’t hold back on Hibs: he reckons the fans are just waiting for an excuse to turn on David Gray. Gordon Parks makes the case that Falkirk could have a genuine relegation battle on their hands, there’s a look at Kilmarnock v Celtic and Motherwell’s European style of play, plus the panel’s predictions for this weekend – and, inevitably, Tam’s hair.

  1. Did Rangers even take the right footwear with them? How can you say the same old problems, they have new management, and the bulk of first teamers replaced.

  2. The SFA are entirely to blame for our shortcomings. Rather than having a competitive league this small minded, Glasgow centric organisation has done everything in its power to keep everyone else from having a chance of winning the league, by keeping the league smaller it heavily benefits 2 teams. The gap is so outrageous between the rest of us and those two teams.

  3. Its like a broken record,
fiddling about with the number of teams in the league will not make any difference, we do not have enough good teams available in scotland.
We should start seeding the cup competitions to stop all premiere ties before the last 8.

  4. I thought Peter said the other week that his wee pal would have the new club solid at the back. Now he is saying that they need time, if Peter back tracks any more he will trip over Roughie's zimmer

  5. Great show lads great talking points views opinons and banter as ever and great topics take care stay safe enjoy your football over the weekend and see you on the next one come on the well come on ye well make sure you like subsribe and share to the football show!!!

    Lucky tiger preditions

    Rangers v Hibs 2-2
    2-1 Aberdeen
    2-0 St Johnstone
    3-0 Celtic
    Hearts v Dundee Utd 1-1

  6. For the standing of your show you need to move on Mr Parks he can sit there and come accross as some sort of expert i do believe his standing in the game is next to nothing also his arrogence is outstanding he talks as if he knows how all clubs are run come on the guy is a fake

  7. Roughie with the opening line of 'i think these games come to quicklfor our teams', what insight! it's only been this way forever, and so it must be a total surprise for clubs every year. Can UEFA pls send SPL clubs a reminder that they are in Europe that should solve it.

  8. Shankland the captain got on for the last 5 minutes of the Bialystock game even when they were losing 2-1 ! I thought he was the big kiddie goalscoring wrecking ball sensation that theRangers have been missing ? We know Shankland is overweight slow and not the fittest dude you'll ever find on a football pitch ..but come on ! 😮😮

  9. Name me the best captain in the SPFL. What is this guy on? Gogic and Spenser??? McGregor not even mentioned? If you want to be taken serious as a pundit talk sense. Well done Peter for putting this daddy in his place.

  10. Shankland is made captain and is then humiliatingly immediately dropped! And suddenly captains are not necessary, if they're not necessary why were they crying for so long about Tav being a terrible captain?
