Keegan Bradley finished the second round of the Wyndham Championship at 3-under overall, having played his closing six or seven holes in three under to give himself a chance of reaching the weekend.
At the time of the interview, Bradley still did not know whether the total would be enough.
What he did know was how much the moment meant.
Bradley says he has qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs every year he has competed on the PGA TOUR. The possibility of that streak ending created a level of pressure he compared to trying to win a tournament.
“I was really, really nervous coming down to the end.”
The nerves were not unpleasant.
Bradley enjoyed discovering whether he could produce his best golf with his season and postseason opportunity in danger. He believes pressure has often brought out the strongest part of his game.
This situation, however, is completely new.
Bradley says he has never reached the final regular-season tournament needing to play his way into the Playoffs. He wants the opportunity to attack the weekend, shoot two low scores and keep the streak alive.
He also addressed the changing postseason structure:
“They moved the goalposts on me a little bit through the years.”
Bradley’s point was that the same season and points position that once would have placed him comfortably inside the Playoffs no longer guarantees qualification.
He refuses to allow that frustration to become an excuse.
His focus is on the golf.
Bradley believes he has struck the ball well since THE PLAYERS, while the putter has been more inconsistent. In his assessment, one poor round or one damaging stretch has repeatedly prevented him from turning solid weeks into genuine contention.
The season began particularly badly.
Bradley described the period after the Ryder Cup as strange and admitted that returning to the normal rhythm of PGA TOUR life was difficult—and remains difficult.
“It was really tough for me to get back into this whole life. And it still is, to be honest.”
He hopes eventually to reset and return to the identity he recognises in himself as a player.
First, however, he intends to exhaust every remaining possibility at Wyndham.
“I’m going to play as hard as I can until they tell me I can’t anymore.”
