ALEXANDRIA — The Men’s Executive division at the 105th Resorters Tournament had only three of the top-eight seeds still in the running for the championship prior to the start of play on Friday, Aug. 7.
Two of them, in Men’s executive medalist Bryant Black and No. 3-seed Samuel Tukey, moved to the semifinal round after winning their respective quarterfinal matches at Alexandria Golf Club. No. 10-seed Andy Petersen and No. 20-seed Sam Coatta are others moving on to a potential 36-hole day.
The Men’s Executive semifinal matches tee off on the par-4 No. 1 hole at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Alexandria Golf Club, with the finals taking place at 1 p.m.
Here’s a deeper look at each quarterfinal match.
Bryant Black def. Rob Langley, 1 up
A day after surviving a 20-hole marathon to reach the quarterfinal round, Black, the top seed, leaped forward in the match by winning the par-5 No. 6 hole with a birdie against No. 25-seed Rob Langley.
He extended the advantage with a birdie at the par-4 No. 8 hole, trading holes with his opponent until Black’s par at the par-3 No. 11 gave him a 3-up lead. However, Langley won the par-5 No. 12 and par-3 No. 13 holes to trail only by a hole with still five left to play. Black reestablished a two-hole advantage with a birdie at the par-5 No. 14 hole and held serve the rest of the way after losing the par-4 No. 15.
Black, who has been the Men’s Executive medalist the past three years and the division runner-up in both 2024 and 2025, opened match play by taking down No. 32-seed Sam Pokorney 3-and-2 before narrowly defeating No. 17-seed Andrew Olson in the aforementioned 20-hole match in the second round.

Sam Coatta def. Jason Buchanan, 1 up
In a quarterfinal tilt featuring the lowest remaining seeds in the division, No. 20-seed Sam Coatta spent much of AGC’s front nine trying to square up his match with No. 28-seed Jason Buchanan.
Following a concession at the par-4 No. 10 hole that saw Buchanan go 2-up, Coatta won three of the next four holes to take a 1-up lead, birdying the par-5 No. 14 hole to move ahead for good, as Coatta and Buchanan matched scores in the closing stretch, halving the par-4 No. 18 hole with pars.
Coatta, a member of the Minnetonka boys golf team that won the Class AA state championship in 2007, jumped ahead late in his opening-round match to score a 2-up win over No. 13-seed David Grand before taking down 2023 Men’s Executive champion Dave Christensen by a 2-and-1 final.

Andy Petersen def. Erik Nelson, 3-and-2
The other matchup featuring double-digit seeds in this year’s quarterfinals, No. 10-seed Andy Petersen quickly built a 5-up lead over No. 15-seed Erik Nelson are the opening holes, playing them at 3-under 33.
However, Nelson won the first three holes to cut into the deficit at the turn with pars at the par-4 No. 10 and par-3 No. 11, and a birdie at the par-4 No. 12 hole. Petersen recovered from bogeys at both the par-3 No. 11 and No. 13 holes by winning the par-5 No. 14 with a birdie, eventually closing out the quarterfinal win win par at the par-4 No. 16.
Petersen, the 2017 Men’s Executive runner-up making his Resorters return after a one-year absence due to a scheduling conflict, crusied to a 5-and-4 victory in the opening round over No. 23-seed Andrew Womeldorf and a 4-and-3 win over No. 7-seed Matt Norgaard in the second round.

Samuel Tukey def. Chad Hacker, 4-and-3
Having taken two different paths into the Men’s Executive quarterfinals, No. 3-seed Samuel Tukey never gave No. 6-seed Chad Hacker an opening in their quarterfinal tilt, as Tukey won the opening par-4 No. 1 hole with a par, steadily adding to his lead over the course of the round.
Both players traded hole wins from the par-4 No. 4 through the par-4 No. 18 holes, but Tukey never wavered, finishing off the victory by winning the par-4 No. 15 hole with a birdie.
Tukey coasted to a first-round victory over No. 30-seed Michael Rose by a 6-and-5 final before having to battle back from a three-hole deficit in order to advance to the quarterfinals over No. 19-seed Jayson Dinkel, pulling off a 2-up victory.
