2018 Masters, final round. Patrick Reed started the day with a three-shot lead and the whole gallery pulling for his playing partner, Rory McIlroy. Then the wheels wobbled: a poor tee shot and a skied bunker shot led to bogey on the 1st, and he misjudged the distance on his approach at the 2nd — “it needed to fly three yards farther and it feeds to the hole.”
But on the 3rd, he rolled in a slippery, downhill birdie putt — playing less break than it looked — that caught the edge and dropped. “Luckily the hole got in the way, because it was going,” he admitted. “I needed a putt like that to go in.”
That birdie steadied him. From there Reed held off Jordan Spieth’s charging 64 and Rickie Fowler’s 67 to win by one — his first major, without ever quite finding his best golf.
At least he's honest. At their level just a wee bit of luck is life changing.❤❤❤❤
