ALEXANDRIA — The Women’s Championship division kicked off the match-play stage at the 105th Resorters Tournament with a successful showing from the upper half of the bracket.
All eight top seeds scored victories in their opening-round matches on Wednesday, Aug. 5, to advance to the quarterfinals. Of note, none of the matches contested made it to the final hole at Alexandria Golf Course, with only two matches being extended to the par-3 No. 17 hole.
The Women’s Championship quarterfinals begin at 12:50 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, at Alexandria Golf Club, with all quarterfinalists teeing off at the par-4 No. 1 hole.
Here’s a look at how each opening-round tilt went on Wednesday.
Ellie Sticha def. Samantha Sommers, 3-and-1
After falling down by three holes following the par-3 No. 7 hole, 2026 Section 8AAA girls champion, Alexandria native and University of Montana golfer Ellie Sticha won five consecutive holes to swing the match in her favor against former University of Minnesota golfer Samantha Sommers, holding serve from there. She closed out the victory with a birdie on the par-3 No. 17 hole.
Madison Herzog def. Rachel Bowen, 3-and-1
In the other match to reach the par-3 No. 17, Concordia College women’s golf head coach Madison Herzog never trailed in her match over Rachel Bowen, firmly establishing the advantage by winning three consecutive holes at the No. 5, 6 and 7 holes despite bogeying the par-4 No. 5 and par-3 No. 7.

Emily Roering def. Arivia DeBoer, 4-and-2
A tightly-contested match that saw Arivia DeBoer keep pace with Emily Roering ended after Roering won three consecutive holes to close out the victory, parring both the par-5 No. 14 and par-4 No. 15 holes before picking up a birdie at the par-4 No. 16 to beat DeBoer’s par.
McKenzee Sullivan def. Mattea LeClair, 4-and-3
Women’s Championship medalist McKenzee Sullivan, who is the reigning runner-up in the division, never trailed in her match against Alexandria girls golfer Mattea LeClair, opening by winning the par-4 No. 1 hole as part of an opening stretch where she won three of the first five holes.
Mackayla Friedrich def. Kyra Nelson, 4-and-3
Minnewaska Area girls golfer Kyra Nelson jumped ahead early by winning the par-4 No. 2 hole with a birdie, only for Mackayla Friedrich to even the match on the next hole. Friedrich made the turn with a 1-up lead after birdying the par-4 No. 9 hole, holding for good as she won three of the six holes played on AGC’s back nine.

Hannah Boraas def. Lexi O’Donnell, 6-and-4
Hannah Boraas’ quest for a three-peat in the division began with her having to battle back after Elk River’s Lexi O’Donnell won the opening hole with a birdie. Undeterred, the Alexandria native and South Dakota State transfer squared the match by winning the par-4 No. 3 hole and won eight of the final twelve holes played.
Annika Hendrickson def. Celi Nelson, 6-and-5
Maple Grove product Annika Hendrickson survived an early challenge from University of Jamestown (N.D.) women’s golfer Celi Nelson while the latter tied the match at the par-4 No. 4 hole, winning eight of the 13 total holes played en route to advancing to the quarterfinals.
Lauren Klick def. Amanda Helgeson, 7-and-5
Only dropping one hole to Amanda Helgeson and winning nine holes in total, Lauren Klick easily advanced to the quarterfinals in the division. Klick fired a front-nine score of 1-under 35 to advance.
