Resorters legends Randy Johnson and Steve Herzog honored Tuesday – Alexandria Echo Press

ALEXANDRIA

— In a special program on the No. 1 tee box Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, Randy “Doc” Johnson and Steve Herzog were named Honorary Chairman and Honorary Starter, respectively.

They both helped make the Resorters Golf Tournament what it is today: a place for friendships, memories, accomplishments and families.

When Alexandria Golf Club President Jerry Rose asked for the honorees to speak, they talked about the tournament and what it meant for their families.

Herzog had a difficult time holding back tears while talking about his mother being a part of the tournament for him.

Herzog showed how much smaller a clubhead from 1971 compares to today’s clubhead. Then he took the 55-year-old club and launched a drive down the fairway without a problem. The crowd gave him a big burst of applause.

Johnson, who was among the founding fathers of the Little Darling Par 3 Course, also helped renovate the bigger course. He, too, talked about golfing and how it is a cut above other sports.

“The game of golf is where you make the best memories,” Johnson said, adding “You can never get started too late to start playing golf.”

Former Resorters champions were invited to the celebration and naming the honoree chairman and starter. It’s a Resorters’ tradition that began in 2019 — and judging how the honorees, the former champions and friends and families that turned out, it will continue through more generations.
