Did Callaway Just Create a Whole New Club Category?

Did Callaway Just Create a Whole New Club Category?

Callaway’s newest fairway wood is unlike anything we’ve tested before. Featuring the all new Mini Spinner technology, this club is designed to deliver more control, more consistency, and the kind of performance that could change the way golfers think about fairway woods. But does it actually live up to the hype?

In this video, we take a deep dive into the technology behind Callaway’s latest release and put it to the test using launch monitor data and real world shots. We break down how the new design influences launch, spin, forgiveness, and overall playability to see who this club is really built for.

The results are surprising. Whether you’re looking for a reliable option off the tee, a confidence inspiring club from the fairway, or simply want to understand what makes this new design different, we’ll show you exactly what the data says. As always, our goal is to separate marketing claims from real performance so you can make an informed decision before adding anything to your bag.

  1. You guys hitting golf clubs off carpet does nothing to convince me…Maybe take and actually use them on some terrible lies. Plus, if in your opinion these are just for tour players, then what’s the point?

  2. Here's a great video to kick off next week! Quantum Max, Ping G440 Max, Qi4D, GTS2, Cobra? All 7 woods including the Mini Spinner with the robot included. Basically the same format you did for the fairways when the Qi4D dispersion was 170sq yards. Please and thank you!

  3. Personally I think these simulaters where your testing are rigged , why !!? OK this is not a one off but I was fitted for the mavrik sub zero , 85 to 90 mph and set at -1 D now I only hit it 220 in the place . But on the golf course some were 240 but when I reset it to -1 N on this particular hole every time drives of 295 to 298 , 70 plus yards yes well if that were every driver . Now in this weather I set my smoke to +1 N and wind into 300 was a target but 310 was a dream come true yes you may think that weird but later on a par 4 409 yds I hit it 285 yds , and the simulator 220 , NOW this must be not being comfortable in there .

  4. Here is one , this is 2026 in April 2030 we are all going to hit the SAME BALL so if someone of my age 70 hits say 7w 150 yards ? Then would this be BETTER OR WORSE I have in the last couple of months been using my 25 year old 7w and am back to creaming it , this used to go 205 yds now this warm air its travelling 260 yds off a tee , WOULD THIS BE THE SAME OR 50YDS LESS IN 2030 ??

  5. I find it interesting we’re so quick to create a “new category” because this club is a bit different than your normal 7 wood…yet, we have irons with lofts all over the place, different sized heads, different CGs, wider soles, etc….and we don’t feel the need to re-name any of them….why make it confusing? Just name it along the fairway woods win the same loft…

  6. This is like the first time I think I've ever been happy to be a mid speed player. You high ball speed guys now have too many choices and analysis paralysis is real. I like to keep it simple and I don't hit it far enough to have all these club choices at the long end of the bag.

  7. My Qi35 7 wood is a 185-190yd club stock. Can play it between 175yds – 210yds depending on what I want from it.
I love the club, especially on the range but it’s far less consistent for me on the course.
My Qi4D 5 wood is actually way more consistent on the course, pretty much my most consistent club on the range and it’s stock 210yds but I can get 240yds flat carry off the deck with relative ease, so sometimes, it’s actually longer and easier to hit than my driver.
So yeah to answer your question, my 5 wood is massively different to my 7 wood, which is actually closer to my 5 iron (which is 2 degrees weaker and launches high).
My set up is really odd….

  8. I'm a 14 hcp and I couldn't get the 9 wood of the Quantum max to go 145, I 'm blown away how smaller guys and women can just smash it so long, I understand that's a 7 wood, my 7 wood is a 160 club. Man I suck. My driver ball speed is 124 max. thank goodness i can pitch chip and putt!

  9. Read the blog and it seems kind pointless, if you hit it low yes it spins a bit more than the Max but it launches lower and fly's lower, you could probably do better by keeping the Max for launch and apex and increase spin with a ball change, or buy another brand. Callaway just need to stop releasing so many clubs.

  10. Great content and the only content I’ve seen so far that provides such a clear view of the face height. Great to see it with a ball actually in front of the face.

  11. So basically we have completely obviated Hybrids now? We can get a Low Spin or High Spin Fairway wood to replace high irons. I can't wait to see the first big 4 3D printed fairway wood that can come up with some crazy thing thought impossible.

  12. Final Verdict: It's a club for slower swing players who don't have the firepower to fly a 5 iron high enough to land it softly on the green. LPGA player Yuna Nishimura designed it for herself to do exactly that. The number one selling fairway wood in Japan and not exactly your "higher speed, better players".

  13. I have an old Tour Edge, Bazooka, & wood, high face model, gets me 185m -195M hard to argue with, i'm now wondering what It can do with a S or SX

  14. Hearing you guys trying to save the video after 4 swings with the mini spinner not spinning was painful. Had to move to saying it's spin is more consistent – well of course! you hit the max all over the face and much better with the mini spinner.

Not showing smash or clubspeed and not showing impact location with each shot is not "Cool".

  15. I tried the 7 wood and didnt like it at all. I alreay get quite alot of height with my shots… and the 7 wood i coulnt really see a need for. when i hit it in the middle it would just climb uncontrollably… the 5 wood is a much more controllable club. I like to slightly open face of 5 wood and fade… and the height that gets is more than enough.

  16. Gosh, I'm not really following. There's been companies for years providing two different models of FW's, one that is more shallow aimed at higher handicappers and one that has a taller face and is aimed at the better player. I'm struggling to understand the difference here.

  17. Interesting that the factory spec is 3/4” short yet your normal 7W shaft appears well suited with the head for you. Hopefully you report back with on course performance, looks like a great club for your game.
Taller face/grooves/shorter shaft reminds me of the recently discontinued Cleveland Hy-wood line.

  18. How does this compare to the triple diamond 7w? Seems like it might be similar, just pushed further?
TD cg placement with a deeper face?
Edit – i guess that might have been a good addition in this video, how the TD 7w compares to these two.

  19. How often do we hear from so called “Golf Influencers” saying this will change golf. No it won’t. Because the club doesn’t hit the ball by its self. 99% of golfers won’t see the difference. It’s all a scam because golfers tend to think we are better than we are.

  20. Got both the mini buffy and mini spinner 7w. As a beginner, I couldnt really tell what's going on, but I bought it because of the shorter shaft and bigger head. Much easier to hit than a 3W and I dont want to deal with long irons.

  21. While I agree this sounds like a club for lower handicap ranges, they certainly are not positioning it that way on their website. They don't even have a stock shaft offering in x-flex or heavier profiles. Seems odd. I don't want to spend $700 on a 7-wood just to see if this works better than my AI smoke 7-wood
