I was sitting at a table playing Euchre with some golfing buddies in Wichita on a chilly winter day at Clapp Memorial Golf Course. Up on the TV screen was Carolina playing somebody and Michael was putting on his normal display of athleticism and basketball smarts. I turned to everybody in the room (there were 3 tables going) and proclaimed "Michael Jordan is going to be the best player to ever play the game". Our greenskeeper piped up with "Shoot, Ricky Ross is better than him". Ricky was a Wichita HS All-American and starring for Tulsa. Amazingly, Michael IS the GOAT…….and it ain't close.
That story right there just sums up why Carolina basketball is different from all others. It"s a special thing.
I've read about how powerful people seek places and situations where they are submissive. Jordan wanted to try and recreate being just another one of the players. More importantly, to be near someone (from Jordan's perspective) that outranks (Coach Smith). Likely a form of mental relief and release of pressures.
Stevens said no. He has best job in nba 2 superstars and a fine coach!
Now look at what’s going on! Coach Smith would be very disappointed at how Coach Davis was done! That is not the Carolina way! Coach Davis is family!
