Wyndham Clark believes the PGA TOUR’s new structure beginning in 2028 could become “the best thing for golf.”
In this complete Rocket Classic press conference, Clark explains why he supports the proposed two-track system and believes players should have designated weeks off built directly into the schedule.
Under the current structure, Clark says taking a week away can cost players valuable FedExCup positions and create the feeling that they should compete even when rest would be beneficial. Scheduled breaks, in his view, could help tournaments, sponsors and fans by producing stronger fields more consistently.
Clark also wants the PGA TOUR to expand into major untapped markets. He specifically mentions Denver, Seattle, Chicago and New York as cities he believes would be valuable additions to the future schedule.
The conversation also turns to Jackson Koivun and the remarkable generation emerging through PGA TOUR University. Clark admits he is slightly jealous that today’s leading college players have clearer access to professional starts, but praises Koivun and the young golfers arriving without fear.
“These new guys are coming in thinking they can win — and are winning.”
Clark also discusses his week in Detroit, which feels increasingly like a home event because his girlfriend is from the area. He threw the ceremonial first pitch before a Detroit Tigers victory and joked that the team could add him to the roster if it needed more wins.
On the golf course, Clark calls the renovation one of the best redesigns he has ever seen. The layout is now longer and more difficult, two par 5s have become par 4s and he expects the winning score to be substantially higher than in previous editions.
