Meet the adorable dog maintaining one of America’s top golf courses

The Edgewood Tahoe is one of the most beautiful resorts in Lake Tahoe with a private beach, a waterfront pool, and a legendary golf course. If the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course sounds familiar, it’s probably because it hosts the annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship. In 2025, participants included Colin Jost, Charles Barkley, Stephen Curry, Nate Bargatze, Travis Kelce, and Jason Kelce.

Whiskey the dog is currently enjoying his fourth year of employment at Edgewood Tahoe, working with the maintenance team to keep the golf course beautiful.

He doesn’t weed or mow the lawn, but he takes on equally impactful duties. It’s Whiskey’s job to chase away geese, ducks, and other creatures that might interfere with golf games.

Whiskey is considered a full-time employee, and his role is key to keeping the fairway spotless and well-maintained. He didn’t acquire his skills by accident. The canine participated in an intensive training course with Flyaway Geese.

During the program, Whiskey learned to harness his instincts as a herding dog without resorting to aggressive behaviors. Like other Border Collies, Whiskey has a boundless fountain of enthusiasm. The course taught him to control his energy and use eye contact and body language to encourage the critters to leave the greens humanely.
