The Biggest Lie in Golf Instruction

The Biggest Lie in Golf Instruction

For years, golfers have been told to “hold the lag” and delay the release for as long as possible… but what if that’s completely wrong?

In this lesson, my coach Liam Robinson challenges one of the biggest beliefs in modern golf instruction and explains why releasing the club **earlier** could actually help you hit longer, straighter drives.

  1. Mate this is absolutely insane I had this lesson on my driver 4 weeks ago with my coach. It's transformed my driver as well, I don't have anywhere close to your club/ball speed but I hit 280 drives consistantly now. It's the best lesson I've ever had, and to see the same thing with speed you have is quite funny 🤣

  2. Now explain the throw with irons. Liam says throw a lot but I’m sure I’m not the only one that doesn’t know that feel.
Makes sense to get rid of everything from the top with driver since it’s long but what about 4, 5 and 6 iron? And short irons?

  3. Believe it when I see it consistently in comps. We have ‘life changing’ lesson and now this. Looks like we have a new golfer (for now) until we get yippy around the greens

  4. Great vid, I will try this on my driver because I cant seem to hit at the moment lol

But I have a question would this be a similar feeling on irons aswell? throwing club a little earlier?

    Thanks

  5. Doing this with a G430 is immensely gratifying because of the grooves along the top of the head you can feel the weight of it cutting through the air.

  6. Don't read too much into the individual swing comments at the end. Everyone has physical constraints such as arm length, leg strength and general agility. But the fundamentals in this video are absolutely correct, plus not too far from Bryson DeChambeau's swing DNA, but with more extreme dynamics. In terms of neuroscience, when your brain things you've reached the top of the backswing swing you haven't (the club is always delayed behind the thought), that's why throwing it early determines the most optimum timing and impact.

  7. I saw Jack talking about this in an old video a while back, and thought it was crazy, but I tried it for the very first time in the last hole of a round a few weeks ago and it worked beautifully. I've been doing this ever since. I've had a few rounds where I'm 100% fairways hit, averaging over 300 yards (I'm 50yo). On a bad day, I might miss a couple fairways, but not by much. This is truly so much easier. I've even started incorporating this into my iron swing and my strikes are more flush and those weak push fades are mostly gone.

  8. For those who think this is casting or there's no lag, there is still lag. It just happens for a split second at the top of the backswing, then you throw the club. What the instructor isn't explaining to you is, your lower body is shifting and turning so fast, that what you think is casting, isn't really casting. It just FEELS like casting. I saw Jack talking about this in a video a while back. I thought it was crazy. I didn't try it until later, when i got absolutely fed up with my driver. This move works almost instantly, and I've used it ever since. Love it. I mean, who doesn't like hitting almost every fairway 300+ yards?

  9. Glad Liam explained the early release is contingent on not doing a massive side-bend. Unfortunately, I was side-bending today and despite trying to let the club head swing itself, I was duck hooking them. Hope to see more on the subject.
