MEN’S AMATEUR GOLF TOURNEY WINNER ANNOUNCED
Geneva resident Brandon Burggraf was the winner of the Naperville Men’s Amateur Championship with a 2-under par score of 142.
More than 150 golfers competed in the July 18-19 tournament at Naperbrook and Springbrook golf courses as part of Naperville Park District’s Brooks Tournament Series. The Men’s Amateur Championship featured a 36-hole event with 18 holes played at each course.
Amateur male golfers had to be 18 or older with an official U.S. Golf Association handicap, a news release said. Players were divided into six flights based on their handicap.
Other winners based on their handicap were Matthew Ogilive, of Oswego; Kam Hussain, of Plainfield; Steve Stone, of Bolingbrook; and Eddie Ricketts and Seshadri Sundaram, both of Naperville.
The next tournament is the Springbrook Women’s Invitational to be held Monday, Aug. 10. Registration is available at www.golfnaperville.org.
NAPERVILLE STORE SELLS WINNING LOTTO TICKET
Convenient Food Mart in Naperville sold one of two winning Illinois Lottery tickets worth $650,000, state lottery officials announced.
Two Illinois Lottery players matched all five numbers in Wednesday’s Lucky Day Lotto evening drawing, earning each $650,000.
While one of the winning tickets was bought online, the other was purchased at the Convenient Food Mart, 501 W. 87th St., Naperville, a news release said. The store will receive a bonus of $6,500 — 1% of the prize amount — for selling the winning ticket.
Winners have one year from the drawing date to claim their prize. The winning numbers for the Wednesday, July 22, evening drawing were 4-18-19-27-33.

PET SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM FOR QUALIFIED RESIDENTS
Will County Animal Protection Services has launched the Helping Owners & Pets Equitably program, known as HOPE, to assist Will County residents in spaying, neutering and microchipping their dogs and cats.
Eligible residents can apply for a voucher for their pet to receive free surgery at one of 14 participating veterinary offices, including locations in Naperville, Aurora and Plainfield, a news release said.
Animal Protection Services will also provide free microchips for pets so they can be reunited with their families should they become lost, officials said.
Will County residents who participate in the Illinois LINK program or receive Social Security Disability Insurance are eligible to participate. The initiative will be available through Nov. 30 or until funds have been expended, the release said.

Applicants will need to provide their signed LINK card or Social Security benefit verification letter; driver’s license, state ID or other proof of Will County residency; and a current rabies certificate if their pet is four months or older.

SEN. JOHN CURRAN TO HOLD RECYCLING EVENT
State Sen. John Curran, R-Downers Grove, is hosting a free community recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 1, at Compass Church, 1551 Hobson Road, Naperville.
Community members can shred up to two grocery bags of old documents. Outdated, non-liquid prescription drugs will be accepted for disposal, a news release said.
Items being accepted for recycling include gently used clothes and household items, bikes, hearing aids, glasses, sneakers, books, records and musical instruments, cell phones, desktop printer cartridges and holiday lights.
Not being accepted are televisions, computer monitors, appliances, furniture, mattresses, batteries and liquids, household chemical products, paint, automotive hazardous waste, plumbing fixtures, building materials, carpet or carpet padding.
The event is held with the help of Beaver Shredding, DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, E-Tech Trading, Goodwill Industries, Naperville Noon Lions Club, SCARCE and Working Bikes.
