The golf world is stunned. Bryson DeChambeau has revealed what really happened behind his controversial two-shot penalty at The Open. He was penalized for “inadvertently improving his lie” on the fifth hole. He shot a brilliant 66, but the R&A changed it to a 68.
DeChambeau was furious. He pleaded his case. He refused to confirm he would play the next day. “Childish,” Brandel Chamblee said. “He’ll play,” Paul McGinley said.
DeChambeau posted on X: “Obviously disappointed with the ruling. I don’t agree with it, but it is what it is. This fires me up. Onto the weekend. Let’s get it.”

Most golfers given that situation will take a stance and slowly enact their swing to see if there would be interference in their swing. Bryson already knew he was going to use a steep backswing in order to steeply descend on the ball to get it out of the rough, hence no practice swing and stepping on rough outside of his swing area didn’t matter! Screw the R&A!
Who really cares about what Chamblee says..when he comes on,I turn off..Bryson argued his case because he didn’t think he was guilty..why not?R&A said it was not intentional,but there will always be some a..hole that will call him a cheater..and probably don’t play golf..
