The State Open of Virginia is one of the premier amateur and professional championships in the region. The event is conducted by the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) in partnership with the Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA).
Founded in 1904, the VSGA governs amateur golf throughout Virginia and leads tournament operations, handicapping services, and junior player development. The MAPGA, established in 1925, is one of the oldest PGA of America sections and represents PGA professionals in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and parts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
