If you saw the multiple angles of his pre-swing process, you have to at least think Bryson should have thought first before bending the weeds behind his ball. Even if innocent, it was creating an advantage.

Scottie you Tyrell Hatton were playing in the same threesome that Bryson was in when this so called infraction happened regarding improving a balls lie, .Under this circumstance You and Tyrell have a responsibility to protect the field and it would have been your collective responsibility to speak up if you saw something that was out of order. Since you guys haven't spoken a whisper or a word to this effect I can only assume that you saw no rules infraction. So now you have a further responsibility to protect the field by protecting Bryson for being unjustly punished for an infraction that didn't occur. After the round did the R&A speak to you and Tyrell about this. If not why not? Your hands are not clean if you knew that Bryson was innocent and you didn't speak up. This is exactly where modern golf has lost its way. The game constantly tells us it’s built on honour, integrity and self-policing. Then, the moment a difficult judgment call arises, the player’s integrity is treated as secondary to slow-motion cameras, officials and endless forensic analysis.
Scottie says Bryson is “definitely not a cheater,” yet in the next breath calls for stricter policing. Which is it? If the game’s greatest players are fundamentally honest, trust them. If they’re not, then stop pretending golf is a self-policing game. You can’t have it both ways.
The real questions should be simple: Was there any intention to improve the conditions affecting the stroke? Were the player’s actions reasonable? If the answer is no to the first and yes to the second, the player should be believed unless there’s compelling evidence otherwise.
Golf’s integrity doesn’t come from turning officials into forensic investigators. It comes from players being expected to tell the truth—and living with the consequences if they don’t. That’s the tradition worth protecting.

The issue is not whether Bryson cheated. Personally, I don't see Bryson cheating. The real issue is whether he broke the rule. In the eyes of the R & A, he did, and so he was awarded a two-stroke penalty. There's not much more to this incident.
All these comments stating it was a justified ruling. Bullshit, you all are delusional. He addressed the ball from behind like any other PGA player would have done. There wasn’t any way not to trample the grass. Bryson isn’t a cheater. The ruling would have been different if the player was Scottie or Rory.
Not complying to the rules is cheating unless you are knew to the game and haven't had time to learn all the rules. Either way you have to suffer the consequences of breaking the rules so that the best player wins.
