If these guys would cut the dam grass we wouldn't have this problem….
This guy has definitely had a hair tattoo
Think it was harsh, however he did stamp down grass just as he arrived but it's unclear if that was close enough to the ball to be an issue. Because we can only see one angle, unlike with VAR, I would've given the player the benefit. And when you see his actual backswing it is clear of the grass. So I understand why he was penalised but I thought it was harsh.
Anyone remember tiger having fans remove a boulder from in front of his ball ?
I agree, he was stomping around so much. Also felt his demeanor was ‘interesting’ when he did. Case of bad acting.
Well done to the R&A. De Chambeau has no respect for the game and its rules. Thankfully, the R&A stood form and put this arrogant sod in his place. Inadvertent, yeah right.
Andrew Cotter on comms keeps saying Bryson got that penalty for unintentionaly improving his lie. This is incorrect. He got the penalty for improving his area of intended swing regardless of whether he did it deliberately or not. The ruling isn't concerned whatsoever about his intent. It so happens that the rules chap explaining the decision throws Bryson a bone by calling it inadvertent – he didn't need to do that at all. We can all have our opinion as to whether he was deliberately cheating or not but it's incorrect to keep saying that he got the penalty for unintentionally improving his lie.
JFC I'm a casual golfer and I thought he was fugking off way too much around his ball in that grass. Also, golf faster in general. Dude takes forever.
ITS NOT A FRIGGIN ADVANTAGE IF EVERY OTHER PLAYER DOES THE SAME THING MOVING THROUGH THE GRASS TO ADDRESS YOUR SHOT, BUT IF YOUR A CONSERVATIVE AMERICAN FROM LIV GOLF (((( YOU ARE PENALIZED ! ! ! ))) BY SOME REAL HATEFUL EVIL PRICKS WHO HAVE A LINE OF BULLCRAP READY FROM THEIR GROUP MEETINGS WHILE YOUR PLAYING YOUR REMAINING HOLES ( 13 HOLES ) WHICH WAS APPLIED GOING ALL THE WAY BACK TO HOLE NUMBER 5 RIGHT AFTER YOU FINISHED HOLE 18
Great. Now apply that interpretation to everyone
Good explanation… I think we're all better for this incident.
If Bryson did a practice backswing and knocked down the grass… Is that "reasonable " Or also an "Unintended improvement"?
You can just tell that lady in the middle already hates bryson. It would not have been a simple "fair enough" if it were Rory. Literally looks like she has tea with R&A officials
All that time to explain the bleeding obvous.
BASICALLY YOU HAVE TO FLY INTO YOUR SHOT WITH A PAIR OF FAIRY WINGS AND HOVER AND SWING BETWEEN THE GRASS BLADES, BECAUSE (((( ANY )))) STEPPING BEHIND YOUR BALL IMPROVES THE STROKE, YOU GOT TO HAVE SOME SMALL FEET TO FIT BETWEEN THE BLADES OF GRASS AT WHERE THEY ENTER THE DIRT AND IF YOU USE YOUR CLUB IN A SWING AND HIT ANY DEBRI TWIGS, GRASS, PRIOR TO THE BALL THEN THIS IN THE SAME 8.1 RULE EQUALS = IMPROVING YOUR STROKE
Those Sky commentators wouldn’t be so smug if it was their golden boy Rory
Such a terrible ruling! Bryson was robbed. This guy needs to be held accountable
Targeting isn’t a good look for the sport. We already know you guys don’t like Bryson.
The only thing they got wrong was saying it wasn’t deliberate. Blatant improving of conditions.
If it was Rory, they would send an excavator to clear the grass. Then he would take a free drop instead.
He knew what he was doing. Accidental, my arse
So if a ball is hit up against the scoreboard, they allow them to move it , but only if they say Mothe rmay I,. Seems like selective rule enforcement
He didn’t do nothing wrong ,it was what everyone else would do ,you have the right 360% around the ball to determine one’s geometry or path to the hole.Bad call folks.
Clearly the tall grass area directly behind Bryson's backswing and downswing was trampled down. Rules are rules. Bryson knew exactly what he did.
These not-a-Bryson-fans are hilarious.
Wondering what happens if 1. His caddy had walked behind the ball looking for it or2 all the people who sometimes tramp around helping players look for a ball somehow improve the players lie….who is responsible …is there a penalty. Not too difficult for a caddy to find a ball with his eyes and then act like he is still looking, tramp down a bunch of grass and then go " I found it be careful where you walk".
Great decision upholding the integrity of the game. Just hope the same can apply to the football now, and bookings are given to those rolling around on the floor having never been touched.
Anyone who actually plays golf, can see that’s a penalty. The only question mark dips if it was accidental. For an experienced pro it is either deliberate or unbelievably careless, if that had been Patrick Reed, people would’ve been all over it.
Bullshit ruling. Let’s get a dedicated camera for EVERY SINGLE PLAYER for their entire round from now on.
How did you find out about this rule violation? Did a player bring it to your attention? Was a rules official the first to raise the issue?
If the guy had to read through a written statement instead of explaining it from his head tells me that it was a reach and they are trying to come up with a legalese language
Their explanation was terrible. Why don't they just say he stomped down the grass that was in his backswing. That is what it looked like to me.
That's a horrible call. This could be called every time a player is in the ruff
2 stroke penalty for playing on the LIV tour 😂
He went to liv 2 stroke penalty, please keep off the grass😂😂😂
Wonder if the R&A has a secret video that proves that the weeds he stepped on trying to addtess his ball were directly on his swing path. The videos I see are face on and don't appear to be in a direct line to the way he stood to hit the shot. Like Rory, Faldo and Brandel, I don't much care for Bryson, but we should be fair. What if they had a camera zoom in every time Rory marks his ball? What are the odds he would remark it EXACTLY within a millionth of an inch where it originally was? No way could it be done.
Film every shot of every player…thrn its a level playing field…
