Post-match interview with England captain Harry Kane following their 2-1 defeat to Argentina at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final.
Anthony Gordon put England ahead in the 55th minute before Enzo Fernandez equalised in the 85th minute and Lautaro Martinez scored Argentina’s winner in second-half stoppage time. Lionel Messi provided both assists.
Kane says everyone in the England camp is gutted after seeing their lead slip away. He reflects on England losing momentum, struggling to keep the ball and failing to apply pressure during the closing stages. Kane also praises Messi as one of the best players ever, explains the switch to a back five and says managing leads remains a missing piece from England’s recent major tournaments.

Kane and England played really good as an Argentinian what a game respects to england 🇬🇧 and argentina 🇦🇷 for that game
Tough luck England well played❤
GOAT my arse. Zico was better than Messi, Pele, cr7 and Maradona. The best dribbler, scored more goals from direct free kicks than anyone in history.
Not captain material only thinks of himself
England aren't skillful enough to play 'Catenaccio' style.
Great gentlemen kane.👍
Kane showed nothing in game. No desire no spirit terrible disappointing . He is not consistent like manager has to go.
how many times will we hear these excuses
