2022 Open Championship, St. Andrews, the famed Road Hole 17th. Cameron Smith led by one when his approach came up short and left — 21 yards from the pin, with the most feared bunker in golf sitting directly between his ball and the hole.
Most players chip there. Smith pulled his putter. He rolled it up the slope and back down, threading it around the Road Hole bunker to 10 feet, then calmly holed the par putt. He birdied the 18th to win the Claret Jug and set the Open’s all-time to-par record at 20-under. His playing partner Cameron Young called it “another example of why he’s one of the very best.”
