STATELINE, NV. (KTXL) — Some of the biggest names in sports traded stadiums and arenas for the golf course this week, but they still had plenty to say off the fairway.
FOX40 caught up with athletes and celebrities throughout the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, where conversations covered everything from the Sacramento Kings and Raiders to why the annual tournament has become one of the most beloved events on the sports calendar.

Charles Barkley doesn’t mince words on the Kings
When asked what it will take for the Sacramento Kings to return to the NBA playoffs, Charles Barkley delivered an answer only Barkley could.
The NBA Hall of Famer joked the Kings need “a miracle,” “the hand of God,” and even “the Pope coming to town” before adding that Sacramento’s situation is difficult.
Despite the criticism, Barkley made sure to praise one group he believes never disappoints.
“They have one of the best fan bases in the world.”

Former NFL quarterback Derek Carr offers advice to Raiders rookie Fernando Mendoza
Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr knows what it’s like to lead one of the NFL’s most passionate fan bases.

When FOX40 asked what advice he would give No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza as he begins his NFL career, Carr emphasized effort over perfection.
“You don’t have to be perfect,” Carr said. “Just give it your absolute best.”
Carr said Raider Nation has always appreciated players who compete through adversity and give everything they have every Sunday.

Zach LaVine optimistic about Sacramento’s future
Kings guard Zach LaVine said he’s entering the offseason healthy after focusing on recovery and training.
Now, he’s looking forward to helping lead Sacramento’s young roster.

“I think we have a chance,” LaVine said. “To go out there and compete at a high level.”
LaVine also discussed his health and excitement for the season ahead.
