If you’ve tried every upper body fix and still can’t stop standing up through impact, the problem is probably starting from the ground. Eric Cogorno breaks down the lower body chain reaction β trail foot, trail knee, lead hip, upper body β that high handicap golfers get wrong and shows exactly how to fix it with one simple sequence. Watch how Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy use their trail knee and lead hip depth to stay down at impact, and how the alignment rod drill gives you the same feel immediately. If you leave this video without trying the trail toe drill, you’re leaving consistency on the table.
What You’ll Learn:
What You’ll Learn:
β’ Why incorrect trail foot position causes thin shots, topped balls, and standing up through impact
β’ How the trail foot controls the knee, hip, and entire lower body chain reaction in the golf swing
β’ The trail toe fix: pushing off the inside of the big toe to keep the lead hip deep at impact
β’ The trail knee drill for closing the gap and training correct knee path through the ball
β’ Why lead hip depth is the real key to staying down at impact for high handicap golfers
β’ The four-step sequence: trail toe, trail knee, lead hip, upper body β layered piece by piece
β’ How Adam Scott and Rory McIlroy use trail knee and hip depth that most high handicap golfers never learn
β’ The alignment rod drill for training correct knee path so your lower body stops leaking toward the ball

This will change your swing! Outstanding!
A few great balls strikers that I know have flareups in the joint in their right big toe probably because of this. Iβm a decent ball striker and I get occasional flareups in that joint
anything for great Golf you must sacrifice play through the pain. π
Great video Eric! Very timely for me too. I have been using the Swing Coach app for several weeks now to chase a cure for my early extension. I stumbled upon something that you mentioned early in the vid, ie there seems to an order to what I need to fix. For me I started with swing plane and have been cleaning up other issues. Will address this βorderβ more specifically – if you think it is important?
Do you want to just sit me down in front of this video next week at the school and take a break!! Looking forward to getting a live look at this problem for me next week. No more toe shots!!!
Another fabulous lesson! Thanks Ericπ
Getting the trail knee in zone at impact does not automatically get the lead hip in zone…
π‘π€
I struggle with this exact thing and I've focused on moving my knee, but the cue of "push from the inside of the big toe" is genius!
or…..you can just leave your trail heel on the ground til after impact like Steve Stricker.
Good stuff β¦ As we think about the Swing Coach App down the line indicators of extension (Hip Depth, Spine Stability, and Head Position), should they all work in concert as we work on this?
I can keep hip depth and spine stability in zone. I can not keep Head Position in zone and itβs often like 6βs and 7βs. It makes me wonder if I should even care about Head Position if the other two metrics are in zone.
Always been one of my issues. This is another way to get it right. Great drill, I also like th one where you put your right foot in the bucket and if you turn too much, fast or forward th pain ofnthr bucket in the shin is a friendly reminder π
Iβm looking forward to asking my golf buddies to check out my butt line!π
Well done, Eric
Very clear, insightful, and promotes encouragement for one to improve…
