I really want to play this way but when I try to swing with your approach – which is how I intuitively did when I started the game – I end up struggling with high/spinny ball flight. Can you point me in a direction that might help me figure out the culprit? My instinct says it’s a low point issue but I when I hand over control to the club to gravity that’s the result I seem to get.
Great lesson as always, and thank you for what you do!
love this style of teaching, a lesson with Shawn is definitely on my bucket list.
Used to caddy at Windermere waayyyyy back in the day.
Interesting. If I’m a lefty that plays right handed (lead hand dominant) and struggle with the release (thin shots) is there a grip style that would benefit me in the release? Overlap hasn’t worked.
Shawn, thanks for sharing this as a complete lesson–very valuable. We all want some of this!
I love these lesson videos!!!! Please post more of these!
Thank you for sharing this great lesson! Now we all can learn from this 🙏👍
Do you run any clinics in the US
Great video !
I love your videos I couldn’t hit anything watched your videos got on track only been golfing a bit over a year and just broke 131 club head speed 2 days ago by thinking about the golf swing as a double pendulum
I got the feeling bro didn't trust the process until the end haha I think it's because it goes against everything traditional golf instructors teach. Like most say don't lift the lead foot, have a neutral grip, and turn hard through the ball. You could see him trying to do all that at first and he looked so tense chasing speed. Then he lifted the foot and boom 170
Thank you Michael for being such a great student; your open mindedness and curiosity are massive assets to your success! ATHLETE! 👌👍🫶💪👊🔥
Realized I don't allow the hinge. Eye opening since I struggle hitting behind if I use strong grip
Awesome video!
Great video with great analogies
This is so cool Shawn! I'll be playing my first year at Windermere GCC this year. So good to know Michael is such a good student. Speaks volumes as to how the teaching approach is at Windermere.
Shawn -the Yoda of the golf swing. So good!
I'd love to see a closeup of that double overlapping grip. I'm not picturing it from the discussion
may be your best one ever
Nice, I’ve been working on relaxing my hinge to get the speed up, and it’s just like this. You would think it would create more dispersion, but it in fact created a very consistent flight
Shawn: I picked up your recommendation regarding a strong grip. Specifically, I was having a hard time taking the strong grip. Your recommendation to take my regular grip with the face closed and then square up at setup worked magically. Very long, straight powerful drives. Thanks so much
Shawn man you are absolute WIZARD.
When I first started golfing I was always longer. When I started to focus on my technique I lost all the distance.
Now with this swing, I literally only focus on my hands creating the pendulum, and I am legitimately hitting it 320 without having to throw my back out.
I have been watching your videos a long long time Shawn. I don't think he ever gets onto his right leg with his pivot and then never "goes and gets the ground" (your words?) with his left leg. And I bet if you asked him, he thinks of moving his hands right, then left.. instead of up then down.
You're such a fantastic teacher, I've been following for a few years now and you often say things that feel like you're talking directly to me. The little bit about feeling out of control has always been a concern of mine. Like most amateur golfers I struggle with consistency and it's hard to trust your swing when the results are inconsistent and you're feeling out of control. I need to work on continuing to trust the process and let the results come. Keep up the good work, love these lesson videos.
Shawn, have you ever studied Mike Austin's thoughts on the compound pivot and throwing the club?
Is the face still closed with a strong grip when playing the fade??
What is the length of your driver
And by the way, if you wnt ro come to Quebec City to learn how to get this for yourself with our Golf Experiences at Royal Quebec, email me at shawnclement@me.com
i like the non stop yapping and feedback. rock on yoda 🤠👌
Why don’t the pros adopt this setup?
Fantastic video! So cool to watch you teach a pro.
Hi Shawn, I tried turning my butt to the target and hit a huge bomb which felt great. Then I started coming over the top and hitting low left. Please tell me what you think how to stop the over the top. Thanks for the great content.
An open face with an in to out path will push-draw. Slightly higher flight. More dynamic loft. Travel further. More power.
Closed face with out to in path will pull-fade. Slightly lower flight. More roll out. Travels farther. More power.
You are by far the the best golf instructor of all. When you teach and coach by yourself, you are second to none. So many videos wasted with other distracting demonstrators. A lot of wasted effort over the years.
Can i gain distance at 60 year old with a bad back
I do the same thing as he was initially doing because my HackMotion tells me that too much extension of the lead wrist at the top is bad. But because I feel constrained by restricting that extension at the top, I’m now reconsidering. I’m now contemplating adding more cup in the left wrist at the top, regardless of what HackMotion says.
It’s very important to show individual lessons like this in order to concretize abstract principles.
Much can be learned from the one and only Bobby Jones in his golden “How I Play Golf” and “How to break 90” videos here on YT. There’s a 3-hour long video here that combines both of them. He would approve of this lesson.
I’ve discovered that especially with my driver I use a super strong grip with a shut club face at address has given me 30 more yards with a straight to slight draw. But I do tend to come over with a hook as my miss. But I find there’s no need at the top to try to lay off or bow the wrist or do anything and as long as I don’t rush and lead with my body, I can swing as hard as I want.
CHANGED MY GAME ! I wish I could attach my trackman numbers . This completely
Changed how I think about speed . I am a 4 handicap so my fundamentals are already there but speed and distance are something I could improve on. My mind is blown I have never seen these trackman numbers for myself in my life.
THANK YOU! amazing way to think about golf
Yea but your head going up and down when I try it I chunk it
Last 3 weeks I’ve narrowed my stance considerably and swung at what feels like a practice swing or minimal effort (no force) due to back injuries.
Driving the ball better than ever, more distance and way more fairways hit.
Even turned my nasty snap hook into a reliable fade😊 finding more greens with the short irons as well.
Mid to long irons are gonna need work because they aren’t getting used😂
another awesome lesson. It's all there
