  1. I have long since ditched my 3 wood and gone with a 5 wood. I hit the 5 farther and could actually get it off the ground. My 3 basically just got used off the tee anyway. Most amateurs don't generate enough speed to properly hit a 3.

  3. I play the Qi 10 7 wood (replaced hybrid), stealth 2 five wood, m2 3 wood (grandpa's old one) and a stealth 2+ driver. I am a 9.4 but around a realistic 4-5 due to not putting in scores and I'm a freshman in high school. Is this a good set up? Also I'm playing A wedge – 5 iron in 2019 P-790's (also my grandpas old ones)

  6. I use a 21 degree 7 wood , an 18 degree 5 wood and a 13 degree mini driver ( regular driver head) in a 3 wood shaft. Since I never hit 3 wood off the deck with any consistency and just used it off the tee I put the mini driver together just for holes where full driver is too much.

  7. Gotta show the 7 wood the love my most favorite club as a low handicap. Get high launch with soft landing on greens or you can trap it and do low penetrating shots.

  14. Always an interesting topic Trottie. Driver and short to mid irons are the bread and butter of golf but long end of the bag needs tinkering. W7 has replaced my hybrid/4i. Using my 5 wood mainly on par 5's. That I may take out and strengthen the w7. My set up D 9.5, miniD 13.5, ui16, w5 19.5, w7 22.5, i5 25, i6 28… Driver max 100mph

  16. As a senior player, I took my 3 wood, 4 hybrid and 5 hybrid out of the bag and now play a 5 wood, 7 wood and 9 wood. Those clubs much the game much much easier. They launch higher, go further and are very forgiving.

  20. I think people underestimate delivered loft and attack angle. Lots of people have no business playing a 3 wood due to those factors and speed and conversely some fast high dynamic loft players have no business playing 7 wood as it would go to the moon and spin way too much. Fitting is important

  23. i play 3, 5 and 7 wood. i tested a 9 wood; but found my 5 iron was more useful. i use 3 wood off the tee for more accuracy; still goes over 250 yds. i use my 5 wood off fairways when i need to hit over 230 on longer par 5's and use the 7 wood for any shot around 200-220 yrs.. long par 3's. woods are way better vs hybrids IMO, because when hit correctly, land softly on the green and have a nice high flight. or you can hit a low ball into the wind. Qi35's feel so much better vs. Qi10's; love the look of them behind the ball as well. changed my game.

  26. I’m still using my sim 2 max 3 wood been years and I can’t get it out my bag, recently swapped out my 5 wood for a 7 and the difference is massive the gapping is much better for my set and I feel that 7 I can hit out of any lie

  27. Hey trottie….would it be wrong to strengthen my 5 wood to a 4 and 7 wood to a 6 so i can keep the 9 in the bag also? There just too close together right now and I hit my 5 wood being shorter off the ground and tee wayy better than I do a 3 wood.

  36. I have a 66 gram X stiff ventus velocore plus in my qi10 driver and a 7X in my qi10 3 wood. I want to order a qi35 7 wood do you recommend the same 7x shaft as my 3 wood or should I go to an 8x ventus ?

There is a huge number of amateur golfers who should not listen to “get it further even if it lands in the rough” because they can’t hit it out of the rough very well and that will lose more strokes than having further in on their second shot. It’s fine to say, “It’s been proven”, but only as it applies to better golfers.

    Currently playing both 3- and 7-wood. For me, 3-wood is about 10-15 yards longer off the tee compared to 7-wood. Off the turn the same, but only 20% of the time when i hit it crispy. Otherwise, about the same distance. Considering exchanging the 3-wood for a 5-wood. Any thoughts on this?

  43. That data is based off of tour players. Let's be real. For amateur golfers, sometimes the 3-wood is better if that means keeping it in play or avoiding bunkers that are in driver range. Unless you also mean that being in a fairway bunker is still better and worth the distance
