Wyndham Clark's BEST Drill for Better Ball Striking

Wyndham Clark’s BEST Drill for Better Ball Striking

In today’s video we take another look at one of Wyndham Clark’s brilliant practice drills from the US Open.

In my previous video we looked at why Wyndham was teeing the ball up unusually high to help shallow out his strike. This time we’re focusing on the alignment stick through the belt loops and how it can dramatically improve your downswing sequence.

This drill is fantastic for golfers who:

🏌️ Spin their hips too early

🏌️ Get their arms trapped behind them

🏌️ Get stuck in the downswing

🏌️ Swing too steep

🏌️ Flip through impact

🏌️ Want more compression and better ball striking

I’ll explain exactly what Wyndham Clark is trying to achieve, why this drill works, and how you can practise it safely at the range.

One of the biggest improvements amateur golfers can make isn’t trying to swing harder—it’s learning when different parts of the body should move.

  1. Hello Jay,
Why do some instructors teach to keep the back to the target in the downswing and drop the arms and others teach keep the arms up and rotate the shoulders? I would assume different releases but wondered if you could do a video explaining the differences and the matchups. Continued success to you!

  2. I’ve been trying to work on my hip separation, meaning my hips turn while my arms drop down…. This seems to enforce LESS separation…. What should I do? These are 2 very different feels.
