2025 US Open, Oakmont — one of the hardest courses in golf. Patrick Reed smashed a 332-yard drive on the par-5 4th, then pulled a 3-wood from 286 yards. The ball landed on the green, took a few hops, and rolled straight into the hole. An albatross — a two on a par five.
It was only the fourth albatross in US Open history since records began in 1983, joining T.C. Chen (1985), Shaun Micheel (2010), and Nick Watney (2012). It’s the rarest shot in golf — a few hundred a year worldwide versus 30,000+ holes-in-one. Reed had a blind view and didn’t even know it went in until the crowd erupted.
