Struggling with your iron ball striking and direction? In this lesson, we worked with Ian to uncover the real reason his contact was so inconsistent.
He wasn’t just fighting his hands or club-face. The bigger issue was in his backswing. His lower body was swaying, his posture was changing, and his head and spine were moving forward, which led to poor contact, shanks, and inconsistent direction.
Once we improved his pivot and helped him maintain his posture, everything changed. His strike improved, his accuracy got better, and the shank disappeared.
If your irons feel inconsistent, this is a great lesson in why the right movement matters more than just trying harder.

Andy have you any idea when "Swing Coach" will be available on Android, atm it's only on Apple? Thanks
Feel vs real in golf is next level psychological bulls**t. It's crazy how much you have to exaggerate things to get to what is normal.
Looks like my problem. No consistency.
He hits it fat… but doesn't take a divot
What the helly
Andy and Piers, I'd love to see you do a lesson with a person who plays golf left handed but is right handed. I find that is an issue for me. Dominant lead side causes issues.
He looks like a golfer who follows the youtuber who claims that you need to point your left shoulder at the ball on the backswing. Very little actual shoulder turn and no weight shift. He's made good progress.
This stuff drives me mad . This is not great coaching . This guy swinging the club his main issue is he is trying to swing the club in a straight line to hit the ball straight . If the coach started with explaining that the club works in a circular motion you can then start to help pivot better . Sure he has a poor pivot but he will go straight back to his old habits because the overall concept of his own golf swing in his head is not correct . None of this is going to help him until a basic understanding of how the club works is explained to him .😢
This is where I get confused. You are teaching this guy to stand up more yet I see so much about staying down to achieve compression and good striking of the golf ball!?
I am sure, as you said, that you can only tackle one problem at a time, and that you want to ID the most important one. But the problem I’ve had in making any swing change is all of the match-ups that are basically tied to the fundamental mistake you’re making. Those matchups allow us to play golf around our core faults. In this golfer’s case, his arm structure and inside takeaway are matched up to his bad sway/drop pattern, so that when you get him in a better position w/out the head drop, his arms are way too deep and right arm is not externally rotated, and the club is in a lousy position.
Don’t you think the mind knows this, and that without changing the arm structure match-up, he won’t be able to really make a change?
Right elbow alert.
I know the sway and dip was the most important needed thing, and concentrating on one fix at a time is a good idea, but are there plans to do anything with his right arm and wrist movement, it looks like he's trying to push the ball rather than swinging the club.
Why doesn't anybody say to hold the right knee in a little to keep from swaying?
Why is he loading on his heels?
I would do if it was on android
Gun show at 27:49. I need to spend more time in the gym:)
Who's the blonde?
Great lesson
Loved how you made him exaggerate the fix because humans do not easily change things in a golf swing.
We often think we do but video and tech prove us wrong
Enjoyed it.
Dude always putting his head forward lol.
Incredible transformation! Eliminating that two-way miss is the holy grail for a lot of amateur golfers. Simple cues, great tech feedback, and world class coaching. Keep these live lessons coming!
