I Bought 10 Takomo Sets to See If They’re Actually Junk

We weighed every Takomo, Srixon, and Miura iron head to see if expensive irons really have tighter manufacturing tolerances — and the budget Takomo set held up far better than we expected.

Three price tiers, 24 heads on a precision scale, plus swing-weight checks on the Srixon and Takomo sets.

Takomo was the loosest of the three — just not by the margin anyone predicted.

In this in-studio test we measure head-weight variance across a budget brand (Takomo), a mid-priced brand (Srixon), and a premium forged brand (Miura) to find out whether price actually buys tighter tolerances. We weigh each iron head, compare the total spread between the lightest and heaviest head in every set, and check swing weights through the bag. If you’ve ever wondered whether direct-to-consumer irons like Takomo are really built worse than Miura or Srixon — or whether you’re just paying for the name — this is the honest, numbers-first breakdown. Drop a comment with which brand surprised you most.

  1. Unrealized or not, the boys are low key Takomo influencers! Not only do they keep surprising them, they keep surprising me. As a 12 handicap getting up there in age, Takomo may be what I need! I would love to win a set

  2. Besides the quality of the Srixon heads vs the Takomo 101's is the shafts in the set of ZXi7's vs the kbs tour steel shafts. It's apples to oranges. The price difference would me far closer if it were zxi7 at 1299 vs 201T MKII plus graphite shafts. Not a Takomo fanboy so i'll stick with ZXi7s

  3. “Lousy job” is right. I ordered a set of Takomo 101 MK2s about a month ago and play 3–5 times a week. So far, the heads on my 5-iron, 9-iron, and pitching wedge have all detached from the shaft during regular play. As a result, I can’t really play because I’m missing half of my bag… And to top it off, customer support has been very slow to respond. Needless to say, I’m pretty disappointed. 😅

  4. i sent back there 7 wood , rubber screw retainer was missing so screw fell out , the screw was to long and bottomed out before head was tight on shaft.

  5. Just broke 100 for the first time so I'm looking to upgrade from my "Black Shark Deep Cut" irons that are older than me probably. A set of Takomos might be just what I need
