Golf’s biggest holdup as a sport is it asks fans to act differently than in any other sport. The American sports fan ethos is that fans can and should influence the outcome. Imagine football without fans trying to distract at the line of scrimmage, or basketball without screaming fans during free throws. If golf ever wants to really move past being a glorified country club activity, it needs to embrace this. That moment was supposed to be this past Ryder cup. Fans were encouraged to create a home field advantage. They advertised on a hostile environment. The fans delivered, and rather than embracing it, Rory whines and golf media runs to his defense. It’s far past the time that golfers should be expected to play through crowd noise… Fans getting kicked out for not even cursing but yelling don’t choke is embarrassing for the whole sport
Calling the Par 3 contest at the Masters “great birth control” is one of the lowest and selfish things a person can say. Good for Wyndham I’m sure he’s proud but Fk that guy
